6 speed gearbox conversion

Just discovered that this conversion won't work with an alloy head engine, unless you use the iron engine flywheel and pressure plate.
The 8 1/2 " Lexus clutch doesn't fit under the pressure plate [xx(]

Just remembered, they use a smaller clutch so the locating pins are on a different PCD:I

That's the problem. And the pressure plate is smaller diameter, so the plate won't fit under it :(

Luckily the flywheels are a straight swap, that's what I did with Harvey so I had the larger diameter clutch

I guess you could always skim the face and re-drill the dowel and cover bolt positions:I
Still need a new clutch cover though

Not a problem, as a spare flywheel and pressure plate have been pressed into service :)
Can't re-drill it as they have turned the diameter down too small.

Excellent news.
I hope to be able to start getting my Vogue back on the road later this year. A 6 speed may feature at some point!

Hi interested in your conversion thread Commeracer .
The standard Holbay Rapier H120 has an 8 1/2 " clutch . How is this different to the Commer 8 1/2 unit ?

It's the same:) Just watch out for the splines on the input shaft as some of the early boxes had coarser ones.

Commerfest 2015 is happening. Contact me for details :)

No problem with the H120 clutch, but the standard Rapier/Alpine is smaller diameter :)

milage better ? I would like to know ....I'm still thinking about changing the engine all together with a matching transmission out of a newer Van or car ...but this might be the golden ticket ;)
