6 speed gearbox conversion

Looking into this, and it seems to be feasible [^]
Gearbox is a Lexus IS200 6 speed with a .86 top ratio, so it;s like an overdrive. And it nicely bridges big gap between 3rd and 4th on the Commer box.
Easily available and reasonably cheap too, rated for 200 bhp +
Just need to get a clutch plate and then think about the best way of doing it
If anyone is interested then say so, then i will make jigs and patterns as i go along, otherwise i won't bother

Similar, but better. It's lighter, a bit more modern, stronger, generally cheaper, and has better ratios

gear linkages are going to be fun to sort out

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

Looks like fun. What about diff ratio? with the commer diff, we'll still be sitting at 3500+ rpm at 60 Mph, won't we? I've been eyeing up a mid-90's Toyota hilux diff, essentially the same width as the commer diff, but in a multitude of ratios from about 3.7 to 4.9:1, comes in LSD too.

Diff is a separate issue, maybe look into that later

After alot of measuring and cutting

Commer b/h in the jig

All ready to tack

And fitted to a Commer lump

So far so good [^], got a clutch plate on the way and i need to make a spigot bush adaptor, but apart from that it now marries up perfectly [8D]
