Hi Rupert,

if you are going to the Lanark Autojumble tomorrow (Sunday 30th), look out for my camper on one of the stalls, if there is a tall beardy-bloke stood next to it, that'll be me!

We're not selling the Commer but using it as a stall "office"!

Jessica looks fantastic and it's great to see another commer being enjoyed out and about. Did you have any joy with the table yet? I can get a pic of my present fittings if you need them - I have solid seat backs so only photo of fittings would be helpful for you.They are a sort of open hinge that you attach by lining up and putting a pin through (like the engine cover but smaller)

My old commer had nowhere behind bulkhead so the table fitted sideways attaching when needed at one end to the timber frame under the window - bit more of a squeeze to get round to back of table but it did work for little people.

My engine cover is packed with soundproofing but the catch doesn't work to clamp it down so is more noisy when no-one sitting in middle seat - works well if held down tight.

I managed to get a table from Steve12 (thanks Steve!). Its spot on and fits perfectly, as you'd expect! I means I can free up a load of space that was being taken up by the bed planks and the old (non fitting) table.
Jessica's engine lid didn't fit properly, so I had to have a fiddle with it (I think the seals around the edge have perished so they are not so flexible). I loosened the screws on the catch and there is enough play to close the lid now.

With the curtains down, the windows clean and the table in I can really see how a commer makes a perfect Studio!

I thought I should update with a little bit of progress here.

Jessica is usually parked under the kitchen window so I get to see the drivers side gutter which was a little woolly, so as the sun was out I decided to have a crack at it...

nice van I also have auto sleeper, Looking at the iner wheel arch on your Minnor brought back fond thoughts of Morris Minors My workmates cannot beleive that at present I amusing a modern car (for the last 10 years I used Morris Minors)but an old car came a long not suitable as a daily driver but fun to work on. Good luck with the Comer and the Moggy

yeah all that grot had gone (just waiting for the next lot!)

I used to drive the morris every day, but to be honest I didn't want to make too many demands on her, so I baught a modern (boring) car.

Now I have a family I kinda need something comfy fast and reliable for the tips down to manchester/the midlands to see the family. It means that the hobby can be for fun rather than a necessity.

Whats the current car, its it a riley RM?

Bessie has a few similar bits now that need digging out after being on the road over the winter - got some good camps in to show for them so happier that she gets used.

Hmmm, rust where to start on ours - jobs for the autumn ?

Our biggest concern is the overhang above the windscreen, now all the filler and fibreglass has dropped out (damn those speedbumps :() it's getting rather drafty in the cab. Oh and there's the rear wheel arch and . . .

Like the locking fuel cap Rupert, I don't suppose there's a model number (is it a Waso ?).

just the one summer? you should see how long its taken panky and me to get our arses in gear and vans out of sheds!

yori may well get some metallic surgery in the winter months too but we are keeping her usable all summer *touch wood*
 
you should try owning mine,if i want to drive it i have to use it as a flint stone car,as theres no floors in it.;):D

Thanks Rupert, thanks for looking anyway, dimensions would be handy when you're next working on your van.

Similar Waso caps turn on Ebay but I'm unsure of the requirements re. the part which fits the fuel filler neck. I guess there's a real variety for various models.

Loved the story about finding the keys taped to the bumper:) Surely the motoring equivalent of leaving house keys under a brick ;)

So I have this commer you see... and I'm getting my driveway done... So I've taxed it (she's post 72 so we pay) so I can park her on the road while its done.... and of course its not been done (because of the rain) ... So I decided to put her back on the driveway... oh the battery is a flat... ok no problem she's on a hill, handbrake off, clutch in
rool .. roll... roll, clutch out... CRUNCH!

Can't get any gears, everything is solid... long story short.. had to get the AA to transport her the 30 metres back up the hill[V][V][V][V]

so annoyed

NOT A COMMER VAN FAN ANYMORE
