2 post lifts - Commer compatible?

A question for the guys that have experience with lifts and Commers. I am about to invest in a 2-post lift in my workshop to facilitate working on my various fleet, and I have a query.

As the Commer is going to be the biggest thing I am lifting, would a 2.5 tonne lift be sufficient, and more importantly, would I be able to lift Babs on the chassis rails, and leave the front and rear suspension behind on the floor?

Any advice would be appreciated? I don't really want a 4 post lift as they take up more space, and as most of the time I will be working on MGFs, where i need to lift the body up to get the engine out, a 2 post is more suited to this.

Regards

Andy

I have a single post one, basically the same as a 2 post and can't lift the Commers with it. Main problem is the lower cills, get in the way of the arms. You could make up some adaptors though, our local garage has done that to lift Landrovers.

No you will need alot more than that to get rount the side cill. You would have to lift it on the outriggers to on a two post as well so make sure there not rotten. Like mart says you could make some mounts for it out of box section steel that run from each foot on each post like a square then build up some blocks from that to chassie level. You could do like mart has on his four poster and utilise the jacking points on your van and make mounts from there.either way its not going to be straight forward.;)

What about a railway sleeper underneath the outriggers, with the pad extensions on that? That would help spread the weight of the van over more than one outrigger and be easier, and probably cheaper than a box steel section? - and give me the height. Problem is that the 4 post lift doesn't really work for my workshop, or my other needs - and hopefully bab's will be a one off repair job, at least to get her through the MOT this year.

Sleepers may do it but i was thinking more health and safety we dont want it falling on you do we;)
