1000 Miles in a commer!

Just got back from a 1000 mile round trip to newquay all round the cornwall coast line FANTASTIC[8D] The camper performed well untill its last 167mile stretch on its way home:( The alternator bracket sheered in two places and broke away from the block where its bolted.Managed to strip it all off in the motorway services and took it to a garage just round the corner who welded it up for me;)Bolted it all back on to find the belt was now not in line with the pullys after welding it up:( with a few washers here and there and the belt still not quite right i managed to get him back home:DBefore i went i fitted a facet electric fuel pump with a filter king regulator, blanking off the part where the fuel pump fits, must have been all that power that broke it LOL!! seemed to give it a bit more power up the hills and ran alot smooter as it keeps the fuel at a constant 3psi at all times. It also made it alot better starting from warm when stopping to fuel up,which was very often as commers find all those hills thirsty work!I recon i must have put at least £300 in the tank to do 1000miles there were some mega steep hils though but it was worth it [8D]:D Will post some pics i took along the way. Also got some pics to do a how to on fitting the pump if anyones intrested;)

Well done Jon i link there will be a few people interested in your pump photos

Hi Jon I see you have just done a 1000 mile holiday trip, what
sort of m.p.g. do you get for £300 on petrol? I've just got back
from a trip to Switzerland again,I always fill up at Dover out
and back so that was 1406miles for that part of the drive for
54.252 gall.cost £259.32 = 25.9mpg. Last year on the same trip
I got 28.48mpg. Perhaps Nelly has got stronger elastic under her
bonnet. Commer69.

I was wondering that. I work it out at around the 15.5 mpg gallon mark. Sounds a bit juicy to me, but he did say it was hilly!

try having a coach built even flat roads are hilly although i did get 30 to the gallon according to my maths on the journey bringing him home from norwich!:)

I only drive my commer flat out!!:D:D;)
That was doin around 60mph on the flat roads.Mine goes quite well now with the mods.Webber replacement carb, electronic ignition, modified exhaust manifold, electric fuel pump, filterking regulator.
Only problem you get a bit more power and reliability but loose a bit of fuel economy.
If i drove it at 45mph like on the way back after the alternator bracket let go and i fixed it i got really good mpg.Didnt really work it all out though just filled it up when it was empty!lol;)
It was really hilly in places though some tiered commers prob wouldnt have made some of the hills. Some were first gear jobs all the way to the top;)
You got to remember i was fully loaded to.The mrs must have taken at least 25 pairs of shoes!lol:D;)

I doubt you worried about the £300 approx of fuel sounds like a brill time [8D] I love going away like that doesn't happen often enough for me....without collecting all the reciepts & knowing how much fuel you have when you get home, probably better off not knowing.
I drive Sybhil at 50-60 comfortably round the country lanes, got on the dual carriage way the other day I glanced down & she was doing 71 approx & I couldn't believe it my foot only touching throttle [:0]
haven't been on the motor way yet but can't wait, she will need some bushes doing first :I I am getting aaprox 22-27 mpg depending how I drive.no overdrive just a few mods :)I try to go slower to save money but I forget [V]
where are them pic's :p picies pic's pic's :p
