The chrome caps? It's the original one off the van. Not the above one photographed but one that wasn't much worse. Sprayed with wd40 then a kitchen sponge pad and cleaned all the rust stains off. Still has a few pinholes but looks as good as the photo. Certainly better than it was.

    1972 Commer PB

Being the spare wheel I didn't spend huge amounts of time prepping or sanding, went for the quick end result to see how it would look. Going from this: To this: Should look great with a bit of extra love when prepping the other four and their new tyres :) Ripples and indents from surface...

    1972 Commer PB

Indian rug mate ;-) Wheel before wirewheeling, sanding and kurust treatment. Tyres are to be disposed of so I wasn't too bothered about masking anywhere. Another coat of primer, light sanding then the topcoat.

    1972 Commer PB

Shopping spree! It has begun again. Tyres were ordered earlier and I am going to prep and paint the wheels this weekend ready for fitting. Extortionate prices for what I have bought but for a late night Friday shop ready for Saturday it is good enough.

    Ignition assembly???

Just checked. No holes in the metal outer that is attached to the column. There are three pin holes in the electrical part. But at some point the ignition has had new spade connectors fitted that must be longer than the originals and they stopped the plastic cap from fitting. A slight...

    Ignition assembly???

No hole or evidence of a hill whatsoever. The hole is absolutely tiny and can't imagine a pin and spring fitting into its depth. Anybody got any ideas?

    1972 Commer PB

Hi Guys, Thought I would start a new thread under my new username. (Previously Bazil) I have a 1972 Commer PB that over the last couple of years has sat on my drive doing nothing as other things have happened etc and interest was lost..... attempts to sell failed etc etc. To get up to date: I...

    Ignition assembly???

No pins, No holes, nothing. The only thing I can think would vaguely be correct is: the plastic electrics cap has a rim inside and I think that might clip onto the key side and this would hold the electrical drum / barrel in place?

    Ignition assembly???

Hi guys, A lingering question I have been meaning to ask for quite a while. On the left hand side of the steering column is the small round drum and the ignition electrics, this fits into the ignition assembly, how the hell does this get secured? Mine has been loose since I bought the van and...

    Painting wheels and tyre sizes

Hi Panky, it's been a while.... Thanks for the info, I was thinking wire wheel, aquasteel, etch primer and then several top coats. Are standard commer rims too narrow for 195's? I don't want them to look anything but the right fit. Also, possibly a stupid question, can I remove the valves...

    Painting wheels and tyre sizes

Hi everyone, Been a while since I have been on here. Used to post as Bazil but I seem unable to access this account now.. Anyway, I have horrible scummy looking wheels and I want to strip them and give them some TLC. Tyres will be removed and then I thought about removing everything off them...

    Rip-top Wanderer

Recent photos of the van showing the areas of surface rust and the door bottoms which need repairs. http://s71.photobucket.com/user/bazilba22/library/ Will get interior pics shortly. If the seam along the bottom of the van looks strange it is because this area was cleaned up with a grinder...
