Ignition assembly???

Hi guys,
A lingering question I have been meaning to ask for quite a while.

On the left hand side of the steering column is the small round drum and the ignition electrics, this fits into the ignition assembly, how the hell does this get secured?

Mine has been loose since I bought the van and I have to hold the electrical tricky drum in when I turn the key or it falls out.

I cannot see any locking pins or mechanism for securing it. Can somebody take a photo of theirs? There must be something missing.

I will post a photo of mine if I can.

Thanks,
Bazil.

Cant help with that one as mine are the early type. But that hole on the back of the switch looks suspicious - does it line up with anything inside the holder?

No pins, No holes, nothing. The only thing I can think would vaguely be correct is: the plastic electrics cap has a rim inside and I think that might clip onto the key side and this would hold the electrical drum / barrel in place?

From memory of old ignition set ups they had a spring loaded pin that went inside before fitting that sprung out when you fitted it into the mounting. We use to drill a small hole into the housing and push the small pin in to remove the electric part. There should be a small Spring loaded pin in the hole in the part you have in your hand. There should be a small hole in the part bolted to the van that the pin locates into. Hope this helps.:):):):)

No hole or evidence of a hill whatsoever.

The hole is absolutely tiny and can't imagine a pin and spring fitting into its depth.

Anybody got any ideas?

Just checked. No holes in the metal outer that is attached to the column. There are three pin holes in the electrical part. But at some point the ignition has had new spade connectors fitted that must be longer than the originals and they stopped the plastic cap from fitting. A slight modification to the plastic cap has made it clip over and hold it all quite solid.
Looks like there may be some kind of external clip that holds the inner tp outer though.

Still no idea of how it's held in:( All I can suggest, as a bodger myself, is to push it all in and use a cable tie or jubilee clip over the plastic cover to hold it in place. Sorry that's the best I can come up with, my other ideas involve tape and silicone sealant:rolleyes:
