The intake part of the manifold is cut from the exhaust part and the resultant holes are plated over and welded up. I'm not too familiar with Martin's exhaust manifolds.

My Commer did the same. Stopping after a long run boils the fuel in the float reservoir because as you say there's heat soak - lots of heat with nowhere to go. Quite dangerous really as it allows the carb to expand enough to allow the press fit fuel inlet pipe to work loose. Commeracer used to...
