HELP NEEDED URGENTon the side of the road with radiator emptied

would a water pump failer show a puddle of water on the ground or would it just make a noise , I have had a look and I think it's the bottom hose on the water pump that's leaking , but just want to be sure .

radiator level is still full after topping up and no water showing under van , but I am sure if I start the van which I dont want to do until I have flushed a d refilled , it will start coming out , I am just going to change all the rubber hoses anyway . quick ? the hose lower down on the water pump seems to be made of a harder rubber it's the one that connects to the radiator. Do I need that kind of rubber hose or will the standard hoses do the job? Thank u

Might just need the hose clamps tightening up a little before replacing everything. If you fire it up - it’ll be fine if there’s water in it - and carefully check for where the leak(s) are coming from. Remember there a metal fan spinning round that will take a finger of or strap anything loose around it - so no ties on :)

If you need hoses then ordinary ones will do. Martin Might have some left but if not Speedy Spares will have them. If the water pump is leaking then you will see coolant dribbling from behind the pulley where the fan is attached.

Thanks man , I better put my hair into a pony tail . can I use deionised water or bottled water?

Thanks man , I better put my hair into a pony tail . can I use deionised water or bottled water? I was just looking at how u clean out the radiator and it says that u undo the tap below let it empty then put distilled water in to fill it and run the engine for 10 to 15 mins , ? is wont just water running in the engine cause damage. sordy for all the ???? but I just want to be sure I xont do any damage . There is only 1 what looks like a tap on the rad ,

I flushed the rad by disconnecting bottom hose and put hosepipe into radiator filter hole in top. Gently flushed through. Then I put my hand over hole in bottom of rad to fill it back up and let it flush out again. When water was running clear reconnect hose. I’ve yet to get antifreeze as I’m lazy. I will use deionised water and antifreeze. No impurities in deionised water. Bottled water will be just as impure as tap water. It’s not vital but good practice. Squeezing the rad hoses may help pushing air bubbles out. I imagine air will be trapped in the system so will need to check levels and top up if needed.

Yes that's the drain tap but if you're pulling the hoses off you'll loose the water anyway. De-ionised water is perfect but tap water has always been fine for me but we don't live in a hard water area. If you do then de-ionised is the way to go.

Thank u , I was looking in the manual for the radiator water pump hoses diameters a and length . couldn't find them , anyone know the width length ect .?

Just order them direct from Speedy Spares, they do very fast delivery and they'll fit straight on. It would be a good idea to get some new hose clips too.

Click on the Commer PB tag and scroll down to Cooling System. The hoses are there £14 and £13.50.

Thanks panky I have sent martin an email ,

Forgot to mention that it seems to be just the bottom hose that is leaking , it has perished , so I am going to change them all .
