Sorry I couldn’t say. Only done it twice and didn’t really pay attention. Dizzy did move freely though.

Push the dizzy in as far as it will go. As long as the drive dog engages with the slot in the engine then all will be good.

Thanks to u Both my only concern is that the body of the new distributor is slightly different and is very hard to move in the clamp even without the clamp bolt in, I am hoping the timing isn't to far off so that I dont have to move it about to much, I just need to give it a go and see what happens once again cheers

well had a go at it again yesterday and as soon as I try to tighten the clamp the distributor pops out of it . the new distributor neck seems to be wider which is stopping the clamp from gripping the neck all the way round . I am thinking of trying the old one again with the cap off the new one and see if it's ok. My other other problem is the old cap the faces straight at the engine and my new cap the lead come out the side , so I am a bit confused on were the leads go for number 1 2 3 4 ,here is a picture of the old cap with original leads and the new cap without leads , could anyone tell me were the they go on the new cap . I have put colour tape on new one so I can be told by colour which is number 1 2 3 4 on new cap , OMgod I confuse myself , I am thinking number 1 is the white colour number 2 is orange 3 green 4 red the way I have the caps is how they would sit on distributor so with there grooves cutouts ect . hopefully someone knows what I mean

A38272FA-20D8-4DFD-A95E-E8AFA439D2B7.jpegMines like this. I’ve put dots on leads. Anti-clockwise 1-3-4-2. Feint line under”3” lead is where that notch is on dizzy body. Hope that helps.

Ah sorry I mis-read and thought the new cap was side entry.
Yes 1 3 4 2 anti-clockwise, usually when all set up No1 on the cap is pointing somewhere near to No1 plug.

panky the new cap is side entry , its the one in the picture with the coloured bits coming out of it , the picture of the 2 caps are facing how they would when on distributor. the? was which lead is number 1 ec t by the colour on the new distributor? whilst using the old cap with leads as a reference , so I have put the old distributor back in and I am wondering would it be ok to try and start the van as is ,,as I had to remove the clamp to try the new distributor , so now I have the clamp back on the on old
distributor that's in it , so because I removed the clamp I am wonder is it ok to try start the van and adjust the timing if it starts ? I didnt turn the van engine over but it may have moved a little while I was putting distributor back in . so can I try start it as is or am I better off setting the timing first. I hope u can make sense of what I am trying to saY . I may have move the rotor to line up as I was putting it back in , from pi tyres I took the rotor cap looks fairly lined up to were it was. I am afraid if I haven't got it lined up that I can damage something. ,the distributor is seated properly , once again thanks to yous all

If you're confident everything is done up tight and the cap is secure then go for it, it will either start or not. Good luck.

Thanks again lads , the only thing I was worried about is blowing a valve or something , . the only thing I hadn't got fully tightened is the clamp on the distributor , should I have that completely tight before starting it ,I thought I should leave it just loose enough to adjust the timing on distributor, should I? I will give it a go in the morning , we have stormy weather here.

When I did mine I had clamp tight with fingers crossed lol. I’m not sure whether if clamp is too loose that when rotor shaft spins it may cause the body to move slightly?? You can always loosen it to adjust when it’s running. Like I said not sure if that’s just paranoia.

Not too loose or it could spin and don't twist the dizzy by the cap, grab it by the vac unit to twist when set

Thanks again lads ' I will let yous know when all goes well ' hopefully ' everything crossed' thanks again
