1972 Commer PB

Hi Guys,

Thought I would start a new thread under my new username. (Previously Bazil)

I have a 1972 Commer PB that over the last couple of years has sat on my drive doing nothing as other things have happened etc and interest was lost..... attempts to sell failed etc etc.

To get up to date:
I received a knock on the door over a week ago and I was asked if I wanted to sell the van, I said yes, agreed a price which I was happy with, agreed to sort out some works on the van to have it ready, works which I needed to carry out for selling ideally, and then I received no response whatsoever. After carrying out the few little jobs I have got a bit of mojo back and am going to go for the MOT in a couple of weeks time so we can use and enjoy the van.

Jobs carried out were, refitted all the loose electrics back into the dash.
Removing the crap Paris Beetles canvas roof and refitted the Autosleeper poptop.
Charged up, ran engine and freed off brakes
Cleared all the rubbish stored in the back of the van.

For those that remember or are not familiar with the van, here is the original thread http://oldforum.commervanfan.co.uk/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3555&whichpage=1

New tyres have been ordered so this weekend I will be cleaning off a couple of wheels, or all of them if I find some bricks to sit the van on!
I have some exhaust mounts to fit as some are a bit dodgy.
Wiring to tidy up.

Jobs for the near future:
Tidy and repaint sections of bodywork where rust is showing through
New cab carpet to cut and fit
Bench seat mounts to order and fit
Clean rear floor, patch and paint.
Fit new fuel pump and water pump
Order and build a custom mount for the Double Din cd player
If funds allow..... lowering kit!

Thanks Panky!

I am aiming for MOT very soon and then a useable van with seats and seatbelts. curtains and awning tent in time for the October meet.

Will get some photos up tomorrow and will post progress photos as I go.

Sorting out the van got me hunting for documents etc and I found:
Both sets of original keys
2 x Original Commer manuals
Workshop manual
All the history I received with the van
A brand new original commerfest sticker!!!!

Excellent:D
And you can legally put it in the window because you were there:)

Shopping spree!
It has begun again.
Tyres were ordered earlier and I am going to prep and paint the wheels this weekend ready for fitting.
Extortionate prices for what I have bought but for a late night Friday shop ready for Saturday it is good enough.

Well done Bazil, I like the shopping you've done(the carpet reminds me if my first flat)So your keeping your van now? I hope so as you've put quite a lot if effort in.

Indian rug mate ;-)

Tyres are to be disposed of so I wasn't too bothered about masking anywhere.
Another coat of primer, light sanding then the topcoat.

Sorry Bazil:rolleyes:, your Indian rug reminds me of my old flat.:) Great work on your wheels, they'll look lovely once they are finished. When I finished painting my old wheels they looked splendid.

Being the spare wheel I didn't spend huge amounts of time prepping or sanding, went for the quick end result to see how it would look.

Should look great with a bit of extra love when prepping the other four and their new tyres :)
Ripples and indents from surface rust are evident but going to remove these on the others.

The chrome caps? It's the original one off the van. Not the above one photographed but one that wasn't much worse.
Sprayed with wd40 then a kitchen sponge pad and cleaned all the rust stains off. Still has a few pinholes but looks as good as the photo. Certainly better than it was.

Thanks guys!
Will be glad to get the wheels done a d then on to basic mechanical bits.

Back wheel cleaned ( the one above with bad caps)

I found a round wire brush for the grinder, so the knotted wire wheel did most and the brush finished the job.

EBay seat mostly fitted. Need some brackets and to drill out the broken bolt and retap.

Those seats look really good:cool: and you were going to sell them not that long ago
Wheel doesn't look too shabby either:)
