Wipers wont wipe :-(

Help needed please. Wilmas wipers have given up the ghost and with its maiden voyage of the year this friday I`m a bit worried. Is is a single speed item. The switch that operates them also powers the washers which work fine. It has 2 wires connected to it, a green positive and yellow negative, both doing what they should. The loom to the wiper motor has a green and green/black wire. The green wire registers 12v even if the green wire to the switch is disconnected??? The green/black wire registers nothing. Does this make any sense to those with knowledge of electrickery[:0]:)

Any pointers appreciated. Looking at the forecast I think the wipers may be working overtime........:) Thanks, Guy.

Strange setup on Commers :I The green/black is an earth wire, which goes to the switch. When you operate the switch, you supply a constant earth, so the wipers work. When you switch them off, there is a segmented earth, which parks the wipers. Therefore green is a constant live [:0]
Try earthing the green/black, if the wipers work, the switch is faulty ;)

BRILLIANT:) Earthed the motor and working wipers, many thanks for your help. Just a couple of questions, their is no green/black wire to the switch (and I can`t see one either) and where to buy a replacement switch.

Thanks again, Guy.

Try locating the black/green wire at the left hand side of the parcelshelf, where the loom comes down the screen pillar. Run a new wire to the switch, then a new wire to earth from the switch. It may just be a wiring problem.
Switches are hard to get hold of, but you could always put a toggle switch somewhere else ;)

O.K, will give it a try next week. Am working tomorrow and heading to the Bat and Ball in Billingshurst friday to meet up with a bunch of 40/50 somethings riding 1970`s sports;) mopeds to Brighton[:0] on sunday. The Commer was a big hit last year and am really looking forward to it. Will let yer know how the wiring goes. Thanks again, Guy.

I was at the Bat and Ball last year (see Tulip topic). Lovely little site but if I recall you need to bring your own soap and hot water! There were a couple of Lambrettas when I was there.

Good luck with the wipers, though it doesn't look as though you'll need them.
