Wilma won't start..?

Went to Wales a couple of weeks ago, as you know... and after driving 200 miles plus, she broke down 50 yars, from our camping pitch... kind of ideal really. Anyway, now she is home I have managed to have a look to see what the problem is.

I have a good strong spark, but possibly not enough fuel to the W/carb. I have removed and cleaned the fuel pump, the diaphragm is fine too. The carb is also nice and clean in the float chamber. I have also replaced the inline filter. Yet she still won't start?? She fires every now and again... but nothing else.

What else should a check? - anyone?

Have you tried a dribble of fuel down the carb to see if it fires up, that way it would prove it's a fuel issue or not, and it just might pull the petrol from the tank if that the problem.

Thank Mr P, someone else said that while in Wales...may try that.

Timing..? why would that suddenly alter? Was fine for 200 miles, checked in campsite, and then nothing?? - so annoying. Plus electronic ignition should take care of that.
 
Pull the fuel pipe off the carb and turn the engine over...it should squirt fuel all over the place if the pump is working ok....

Check the vacuum pipe that goes from the dizzy to the manifold, if this has split or maybe melted if its got too hot......this will affect the timing:)

If you decide to remove the fuel pipe like I said and no fuel comes up, it still doesn't mean the pump is u/s....you could have some silt in the fuel tank that has blocked the exit from the tank into the pipe.....you might be able to clear this by putting an airline on the pipe and blowing the blockage back into the tank....fresh out of ideas now LOL:D.....I know its the obvious, but have you got fuel in the tank? is the fuel guage working? have you accidently knocked any HT leads loose?

This will determine if its fuel:
Buy a can of Bradex Easy Start and spray direct into carb mouth while cranking engine. If it runs for a few seconds then its fuel related.
