Got a bit bored tonight and the roof 'fell off'. Brittle and cloudy pvc windows, the internal lining falling away and sealed skylights always bothered me so had to happen sometime. This will also allow it to fit in the garage until I get to drop it a couple of inches one year. Means can get the engine, box and diff off and rewire the internal electrics all in the warmth :) happy winter project

A whole back breaking day tidying the garage out and moving 20 wheels into storage pit (why have I got 20 wheels!!!) and the van is in for the first time in its life. At last working in the warmth over a winter.
Next is engine, box and rear axle out... Recon the block, port the head, fix the gearbox oil leak and put a new linkage block to reduce the last of any play. New 4.77 diff going in removed from the Green v8 Tim did and finally do Pankys rear shocker upgrade.
Also got the wheels to band by 2" if they'll take that and put some better tyres on her.
Oh and fix a really annoying squeak from the front suspension... Drives me mad!

Are you sure that's not your dining room you've moved the van into by mistake?

By the time you've got everything in bits you'll need the living room floor as well.
 
no stopping now - shes in bits. Need a few bits from Martin to complete the gearbox (again!) next week then out with the engine and a strip down before of for head work and new pistons etc.
All the bolts I'd put in the gearbox to hold the overdrive on had come loose, I guess high tensile ones need some locklite as the one old bolt was in fine still.
There's going to be a few questions I'm sure - first one is the gearbox front oil seal, do you have to remove the front plate (4 nuts) and if so there's no dodge with that I guess? that plates leaking a bit too so hopefully can reseal that.

Plenty of life left in that thrust, there's still some metal left;) Unfortunately the plate wont just pull off as the front bearing and first gear cog is on the shaft behind it, the box needs virtually stripping to get it out. You might be able to pull the seal out from the front and tap a new one in but I've never done it so not sure. Hopefully a bit of sealant on the face should seal the gasket, but if you're feeling brave stripping the box isn't too difficult to do it properly:)
