Whirring noise??

Right, good idea will give it a squirt before we set off for a local show today.

Got the bearing from Speedies... looked quite new to me, like I said, it as only done about 5k miles??? And the clutch plate was new also...??

Maybe there do need replacing?? - although I consider myself a 'soft' driver... only ever had 2 clutches go on me in over 20 years of driving.
 
Finding it hard to dis-engage the g/box to change gear... could it be the slave cylinder has failed?? Still got the whirring noise though??

Must be a clutch replacement required I think...? Will do clutch plate and release bearing. How much please Martin?

Hi Ray, are there any signs of fluid leaking from the slave cylinder, have someone push the pedal down and check the movement at the slave cylinder.

Thanks Panky glad you concurr(?) - agree.

Thinking about it that might be it, as the clutch plate and release bearing looked in such good condition just 1500 miles ago.

The slave definitely leaks... but would that exaplain the whirring noise from the clutch bellhousing??
 
Right have fitted the new slave, but it's being a bugger to bleed....!?!?!? - any tips?? just can't seem to get the all the air out of the pipe.

Also, another silly question... Q.When I try to start her, even though she is in nentral, she turns over as if she is still 'slighly' in gear,,?? Does this mean the clutch needs replacement??

I use a Gunsens Easibleed for brakes and clutch but the old fashioned way of push pedal down - open bleed nipple - close bleed nipple - pedal etc up should do the trick.
When you say slightly in gear do you mean the van is trying to move as you turn the engine over or is is the whirring noise.

Thanks Panky. Yes, van tries to move forward slightly as you turn her over... defo in neutral though?? new clutch then?

Yes, I have an easi-bleed kit, but the air bubbles just seem to go backwards and forwards as you press and release the clutch pedal!?!? - shouldn't do that should it!
 
With easi-bleed you shouldn't need to touch the pedal. Just connect it as per the instructions then release the nipple until no air comes through then tighten it. But it sounds like you have other problems with the clutch itself. :(

I've not experienced the clutch dragging thing before bit it can be caused by misalignment of the clutch, but as it's been fine for some time I'm at a loss to think why it's doing it now:I Unless the flywheel has been contaminated with something and is dragging at the clutch plate.
