Where is my itunes music

Has anyone else suffered from this?
I HAD over 2000 albums on my itunes and now i cant find them anywhere, has itunes "put them somewhere safe"
any ideas how to get them back or where to look

maybe worth doing a search via start menu (if using windows) for any old files maybe with a familar song title that you can remember to see if any are still on the hard drive
 
i think i have solved it, in my directory c:usersleesmeatonmusicitunesitunesmediamusic i tunes has added another music sub folder, looks like its all in there? i wonder why its creating this extra folder

well as mentioned found it all in the sub folder but all listed by artist, you then have to click on the artist to see the album - so changing the path for where itunes looks for the music still doesnt work, methinhks i will have to cut and paste each album back one at a time

bit of work involved eh :( , .. anyone else had this happen before [?]
 
looking on some itunes forums there is a possibility that windows media player is messing about with the musics location (even though i dont knowingly use it)

I created a music backup folder on my desk top, copied everything into that from all the various locations that it had managed to spread itself out into, and am now in the process of rebuilding my music library from that folder, only 10312 tracks to go!

all the best with the rebuild, although it certainly will take more than a min or 2 to do by the sounds like it. ;)
 
if you go to start does it say recent items? there is probably an easier way!if you know how!

no, it was as though there was no music associated with itunes - for a while i thought it was gone forever
