wheel stud rotating in drum

Hi folks
took our van to have new tyres fitted (195/80 15) and the fella changing them found that when loosening the wheel nuts, one of the studs rotates in the drum (rear wheel) with ghe nut. So its effectively un-removable.
I havent had a close look yet, but it seems this might be a sticky problem as if i cant get to the back of the stud to hold it still then i cant fet the wheel/drum off to fix it.

He said the nut does loosen a bit so its not siezed on the stud.

any suggestions?
 
Pretty sure that the studs screw into the halfshaft, not splined ones that knock in from the back. If I remember correctly the stud is screwed in and the end of it piened over to stop it coming out, try some release oil on the wheel nut over a couple of days to see if it comes off without shearing the stud.
 
can you get mole grips on the thread and a spanner on the nut then some thin nosed mole grips on the thread behind the nut once the nuts off a bit more. Hub will have to come off after to fix the problem after
 
Am about to go and have a closer look.. useful info (didnt know it was a screw thread!) and ideas, thanks all.
 
Panky is right, the stud is screwed into the end of the halfshaft, it will have unscrewed itself. You will have to cut it off, but the wheel will come of when you remove the other 4.
 
I managed to cut about a millimetre or so off the nut 'depth' and cut a flat into the sides of the thread, which gave me enough to grab the stud with mole grips. With some carefully considered effort and language, it all came apart ☺
Martin - thanks for the info, do you have wheel studs in stock? Luckily it looks like the stud thread is shot but the hub one is ok.
