What did you do to your Commer today?

found a hopefully willing, skilled and enthusiastic local to help me!

Well, that's two chassis outrigger bottom inch repair lengths made and welded on today, one I knew about(a previous repair):) and the other a surprise:I . Onwards to a weeping front brake cylinder tomorrow.(MoT soon)

Thank you Andrew.
Got the brake imbalance down to 4% today and a piece of fabrication/welding within 300mm of the passenger seat belt anchor done and my Commer passed the MoT for another year.

Spent yesterday changing the interior... When I built it id put 2x1 along the sides before boarding out not thinking about it reducing the sleeping width, now back to the van skin with foam and felt and gained about 4 inches, queue jokes :) ...have to say looks almost professional and i can lie full stretch across finally...joy

Went down to the garage to be greeted by a huge puddle of oil on the floor! Not impressed. The trouble was the rear seal on the overdrive that the end of the prop goes in was just letting the oil pour out :-(
Pulled off the prop and removed the circlip holding in the seal. The seal literally fell out on the floor!
My first thought was that the prop had somehow chewed up the seal as it was only in there a couple of months but on looking closer the seal appears to be perfect. It is a lovely fit on the shaft as well. Then i noticed the counter bore the seal goes in had somehow got a ding on the outer lip which i suspect has made it out of round. It looks like the seal is allowing the oil to flow round the outside and out. A proper fix will have to wait till the winter when the OD will have to come out for repair anyway (slipping in third) in the meantime a bodge with locktite shaft seal should keep it going. Just what i need a couple of days befor a camping trip.

I just need a good rootes...

Cleaned and sorted out the interior, my little girls got teddies and books that needed changing over. Cleaned all the blackets and cushions etc, gave her a good clean. Cleaning the cab today in preparation for our first journey of the year this week.

If I see one more grease nipple........

Had the same issue with the sleeve on my OD a year ago, found a spare in Sheffield fortunately (Sheffield OD Services).

Andrew - did the same at the weekend, my front nipples are well and truly greased up - think I got up to 16 just on the front always was a pig. Used red nipple caps to make things easier next time. Oh and a new mirror - keep breaking them on the driveway using them as whiskers - luckily their cheap :)

Yeah the nipples caps help you keep a track of which ones you've greased. Imagine what I looked like after greasing for a day.( my dreads were covered). Did you grease the three nipples that are underneath, theirs one on the relay lever and two close to it? There's 23 in total as far as I'm aware. Planning any trips this year Jim?

If I see one more grease nipple........

I only found about a dozen... All in good greased order, but will seek a game a hide and seek with someone knowledgeable for the remaining ones...

Pulled Bonnies cover off and started getting her ready for an Easter weekend away:D
I had a little fiddle with the carb:) Pulling away has always been a little hesitant and plenty of revs and a bit of clutch slip are usual (she did embarrass herself in front of other Commers pulling out of a car park exit on a steep hill:I)but the SU conversion runs great once she's rolling. After a bit of a think I reckoned she was running lean at lower revs but I didn't think it would make much difference changing the needle as they are all the same at the thick end and I would just end up using more fuel. So I dusted off my needle files (I wondered what they where for;)) and filed a little flat right on the neck of the needle then filled the damper with EP90 to stop the piston flying up and weakening the mixture too quickly. Bingo it worked, pulling into roundabouts and away from the lights with out all the revving and clutch work now - and the tick over is so smooth and quiet it's weird, I kept thinking she had stalled. I call that a result[^]

Yes got those three, one (the relay) was replaced for the MOT but TBH the one that's come off looks and feels fine! was probably just lose or need grease! never mind eh. YEs off this weekend to rainy Norfolk hoping weather not too bad like.
Summer off sailing near Glasgow and then Devon I think
