welding gas

this is kinda commer related ;o)

As Jessica doens't seem to want to give up her rust addiction anytime soon I think I need to sort out a better supply of Mig welding sheild gas than the little disposable bottles I'm currently using.

Anyone got any ideas? I don't seem to be able to find any where that can supply Argoshield at a reasonalble price!

The amount of CO2 we're all getting though must be significantly contributing to global warming!

Get a contract with BOC - its about £60 for a refill of the 5 foot bottles and £200 deposit for bottle. And £60 for a decent regulator/gauge to fit the large bottles

I work for BOC but can't get it any cheaper (staff discount is a thing of the past[V]) There is a motor factors not far from me who apparently offer a re-fill service for CO2 cylinders at a fiver a pop - you just need your own cylinder, I'm working on it. Maybe there is a similar outlet near you - or if you have got a contact in the brewing industry ;)

you can do it the "rent a bottle way" but it will work out expensive if you are not using it on a regular basis, as you still have to pay monthly rental. if you go for argon or a co2/argon mix its over £100 a refil.
the alternative is a friendly publican, as its basically co2 for the pumps. its not strictly a proper welding gas but its fine for bodywork and about £10 a bottle ;)

The motor factors I use, supplied me with a bottle (about 2ft high), then I take it back to them to refil, no rental :)

Same here as Marting Maltas, no rental, just pay for the refill. I must admit though that we've moved away from the gas and got a couple of small portable gasless Migs and they seem to cope pretty well with most jobs.
kjh;)

pub gas for me :) got 4ft bottle for £10 last time, have to give them an empty in return - reminds me, got to get some more......

think the current warm climate may have something to do with Bessies' Welding - though probably balances out with the lack of CO2 coming out of exhaust lately [V]
