Weber Carb

My edification has not bin sadly neglecked and I am not under the affluence of incohol tho' many thinkle may peep I am.

One of the main problems with this forum is thread drift! :)

So, getting back onto the subject, the Weber was never officially sold jetted for the commer (according to Weber via the people I bought the carb service kit off). Apparently the jets for a Land rover are given as the starting point, which is probably going to be a 2.25 litre engine.

Anyone rejetted theirs?
 
That's all right John I'm glad you appreciate how I've raised the level of members on this forum, For information only I have been to Sedbergh/Harrow on the hill/ Oxford/Eton---now isn't that a great pedigree

That is the question! :)

If you look on any official list of replacement weber carbs, you will not see the commer or dodge listed.

Just had a look at Speedy Spares site and sure enough they advertise a weber replacement carb. This is the price list for Commer PB

Hi Les

I am aware that Speedies, amongst others, sell webers carbs for our commers. However, according to the people that make them, i.e. Weber - there is no direct replacement offered, meaning that what's being sold would be an approximation for the engine rather than a carb that's been jetted correctly for the engine via a rolling road - unless Speedies have invested in this themselves and order carbs based on those findings. The suggested jet sizes I was quoted were for a Land Rover.

Couldn't you order the Commer 'replacement' and ask them to jet it for say a 1.8 Sierra.

No carb will be jetted right until it,s set up on the rollers. What is right for one Commer will be different to another, no two engines are the same :)

Surely far better to stick with the manufacturers carb, which of course is the zenith. No messing about wondering if it will fit and no problems with getting the right size of jets.
 
Wouldn't mind trying the Zenith instead of the Ford but sadly the anecdotal evidence here seems stacked against it:(
 
i got webber from speedys about 4 yrs ago ,its been perfect,although there was guy at newark auto jumble selling exact same new in boxes for £80.00
 
p.s i found the origonal zenith far too restrictive,big difference straight away,you can mess about with jets but it works fine on my van.each to there own.
