Webber carb conversion wanted

Im after a webber carb for my poppy 73 commer just missed one on here be great full if anyone knows of one somewhere thanks, al

Going back a bit, I had a standard carb and I upgraded to a Weber...which is a vast improvement...(there is a thread somewhere that Andy Thowman correctly mentions correct jets) ....however, if you can afford it, Tims SU conversions are well worth considering...by far the better option! both performance wise and fuel efficiency wise! :D;)

Well you would need to contact Tim (Commeracer) who would modify your inlet manifold and then get an SU carb on ebay an HIF 44 ......I'll try and find a link for you shortly.

If you want to contact Tim, remember the PM service isn't working, but I expect he will see this and post his email addy up for you :)

You can go for a cheaper one like this..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Austin-Mini-Metro-HIF44-SU-Carburettor-Carb-A-Series-1275cc-/331059651299?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d14b162e3

or you could get a recon one like this...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SU-Carburettor-HIF-44-FZX1531-Jetted-And-Needled-For-1300-App-/111046786576?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19dae77e10

Hope this helps;)

I have a Weber on my van, which i will be only too pleased to take off and sell in favour of an SU. Fully set up for a Commer, which means it drinks loads of fuel and gives no power at all [xx(]

I think my SU conversion paid for its self in 1 trip to Wales in saved fuel, and it goes better. No one is helping me sell it!

you can have my weber if you want. I`m saving for an SU conversion

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

thanks enigma , looks like I'm going to get an su then , thanks for the link too . Can I fit this straight onto my manifold or do I have to use an adapter of some sort ? Would like to save fuel really my carb is drinking it at the omens and wouldn't pull skin off a rice pudding ....didn't know it was the same setup as an old metro ..must have thrown loads of these away ....darn

Both inlet and outlet manifold need modification. The hole for the original downdraught is blanked off and fit a new flange is fitted on the side for the SU - like this

The exhaust and inlet manifolds are separated and the hole on the top of the exhaust one is blanked off.

Welcome! ....The 'adaptor' is called 'TIM' .......and as Panky says it is both exhaust and inlet manifolds that need adapting........it isn't the cheapest project, but, in the end well worth it for the extra power and even more importantly for the extra fuel savings in the long run! ...as for pulling the skin off a rice pudding, you need to consider a new exhaust too!...all of which, Tim can advise or accommodate! ;)

Imagine you was to run up the stairs a few times...you would be out of breath and gasping!...thats how the standard Commer feels.........the better exhaust is like a packet of 'Tunes' ......it helps one breathe more easily! :D

I`m not ignoring you. just need to sort some pennies out for the conversion before I sell the Weber. It`s about 2 years old and has done approx 1000 miles. I have no idea how much it was new so don`t want to be asking too much money. I need to dig out the invoice.

It won't be long before you claw back the outlay on fuel savings:)
