No it would just take longer

Hi panky when I start the van I can see the coolant want to disappear down the little holes , do I leave it running and fill , because when I knock the engine off it goes back to same level ,I only let it run for a few second s ,should I let it run for a few minutes and then check the level or what do I do I have 3 lttres in it already .

Fill it to an inch below the neck of the radiator then start the engine. If it drops to the top of the tubes top up a bit. Keep an eye on the level as it warms up, the level will drop when the engine is running as the water pump displaces the coolant and fills the heater etc.

oo

at the moment it's just over the fins in the rad as soon as I start the van it suck the fluid below the fins but I was knocking the engine off to get fluid for it , but as
as I knock the engine of it goes to dame level again , I only tun it fir a few, seconds .

so should I leave it running for a few minutes then check ? as soon as I start it the level drops but when I knock it off it come back to same level. should I have the heater on ?

As long as you are topping it up if it needed more you can keep the engine running. Yes turn the heater on as that’ll help the water flow through. Also if the heater keeps blowing out cold air when the engine is warm you will know if there’s an airlock

Fyi. When I’m driving around in the summer the temperature gauge stays in the middle. Stuck in traffic it creeps up to red line so I turn the heater on and that brings the temperature needle back down to a less panicky level.

Well it all sounds promising. I don’t see why you can’t go for a spin. Take some coolant with you just in case and keep an eye on the temperature gauge. :)

Take some coolant with you just in case and keep an eye on the temperature gauge. :) I wont speak to soon but hopefully all is good , I am not sure if my gauges work properly so I will check every now and again . it tookabout 4and half litres to fill so hopefully it's all ok , but once again thanks for the help all .beautiful weather here in Ireland so will be cruising with the doors slid back . thanks again ,sometimes u just need a bit of encouragement,

Ahh sliding doors, brilliant. No problem lol I look for encouragement when I’m not sure and this place is brilliant for advice etc. My fuel and temperature gauge run through the same voltage stabiliser so when that blows they both fail. But that’s for another day lol. Well done getting the coolant sorted.
