Sorry for the late reply. If all the bolts are out it's probably just stuck on the gasket, it should shift with a bit of persuasion. have you removed the radiator? you'll struggle to get the pump out with that in place.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I haven't taken the radiator out yet. I've removed the nuts from the top but cannot see if there are any at the base. Will I also have to taken the fan etc out as well?
Yes there are mounting bolts at the bottom of the rad, one either side, also you will need to remove the mount for the accelerator cable. One of those jobs where you develop 'Commer engine bay arms' - scratched to bu**ery
It is possible to undo the four bolts holding the fan on with the rad in place, it's awkward but I cant remember if there's enough room to get the pulley out. If you manage it then no need to take the rad out but be prepared for badly grazed knuckles
It does make it a lot easier if you take the rad out first.
OK, some good news. I have got the radiator and water pump off but cracked it in the process. I have found a company who specialise in fixing water pumps so fingers crossed it'll be sorted soon.
Yes indeed though have had difficulty finding a replacement. Speedy Spares out me on to this company. The van is a 1962 PA with a 1600 engine, so might be scarce now.
Hi, Martin has a good second hand one for me! Soooo happy. Thanks again Panky. My van is having an engine re-build over the next couple of months before we really get to use it as we've had a few teething problems. It'll be worth it though when we get there. Cheers, Tim.
It will bolt onto a bare engine but, IIRC you will also need to use the Hunter thermostat housing and you might run into issues with the alternator positioning as it will be sitting lower. Cant think of anyone who has done it so there must be a reason.
I did consider it when I fitted the Rapier engine but gave up and used a Davies Craig instead.
Ta. I'm collecting a box of bits to keep on hand for when I break down on the side of the road. A water pump is on that list and the classifieds all have Hunter rubbish.
