Wanderer project for sale

I’m unfortunately going to have to admit defeat on this one. I have a 1968 Commer Wanderer, bought about 3 years ago with a view to restoring. I have done a fair bit, but it’s going too slowly and I have too many other projects. It has to go. Its current state is:

Engine and gearbox good, with brand new clutch (< 5 miles)

Brake system overhauled, new pads and seals all round.

Interior stripped out. Largely complete, except that some of the rear cupboards are rotten at the bottom. All the interior is there, including beds, cupboards, stove etc etc.

Floor welded and painted – not pretty, but since it is covered by flooring this should be fine. Painted in white hammerite.

Roof has been removed and stripped, but is all there. I have started remanufacturing some of the woodwork.

Body need considerable work – it is structurally sound, but there is quite a lot of rust. It is however far from irretrievable, but will require someone with welding and finishing skills. Surprisingly, the lower you go on the body, the better it gets. The worst part is the roof and rain gutters.

The van will need trailoring. It is currently resting on bare rims (15”) as this is the only way to get it into my garage.

Currently on SORN.

Seems too good to scrap to me, but it really has to go, so make me an offer, else it is going onto eBay or the scrapyard.

Pete Wandering what I've let myself in for

Hi Pete that's a shame[V] you've done a fine job on the floor too:) The roof issue is fairly typical wander rot - once the wood starts to decay it acts like a corrosive poultice and the metal soon follows[xx(] Far to good to scrap, someone will take it on I'm sure[^]

Summer's Coming

If I had the space and the time, I would be biting your hand off for this van as this is my dream Commer. Unfortunately I am still a long way off completing my current project.

It looks like you have carried out some sound work already and I hope you find someone who can give it the care it deserves to get it back on the road.

Thanks, guys, really sad to be dropping this one. Panky, you are not wrong about the rot destroying the wood, particularly around the roof area.

Yes, a member of the forum. Didn't ask if he wanted to be identified, so probably shouldn't say who.
