Vw...Nil....Commer ...1

My 18000 mile Vw Tiguan screwed up its 4x4 diff. And so the Commer has been my daily wheels for the last week while the German is being repaired.
And as the saying goes
..If only everything in life was as reliable as a ..COMMER
 
Fortunately, Herman the German is under warranty! But you are quite right Panky, think how much more fun I could be having with a Commer Pickup !
 
For balance....................

The 5 Pot VW TDi in my Volvo has done 340K miles and showing no signs of distress. The best of British Perkins in my Commer needed rebuilding after 66K miles.

But I agree, VWs ain't what they used to be. There's a dead 53 plate Golf in my garage.
 
I guess there is good and bad in everything mechanical. The Commer has been round the clock and runs as sweet as a nut, My elder brother has a Honda v twin motorcycle that has 100k on it and you would think it was 6 months old. Herman has been returned and has had fluids/ filters/ and bits and bobs done and hopefully will be fine now.

Haldex coupling failed by any chance?

Almost . The oil had broken down ? And the haldex filter was blocked. The diff sounded like Notting Hill carnival in full swing on either left or right lock when pulling away. Apparently has to be changed every 3 years and is not mileage based.

It's every 4 years on skoda .. We have had a couple fail on the Yeti too, the filter in the pump blocks and burns it out
 
At least I am for warned now! Apparently the oil AND filter on the dsg gearbox must be changed at 40k or its bye bye gearbox.
I'm getting a little paranoid about the 22 grease points on the Commer now !
 
Impressed that my darksider is 2 year/24k mile service intervals

I hope you got it with the intention of transplanting the running gear into a Commer;)
I pulled up next to one at the lights when the Mini first emerged. He must have been scared of me because he disappeared at warp speed when the lights changed:eek:
