i was talking to Will and Dave at the tewkesbury meet and they have used carlton gearboxes to mate to their 8valve cavalier engines but are finding them hard to get hold of,its dawned on me this morning spoddling around my local scrappy that the omegas gearbox is the same and would fit 8 and 16valve motors depending on vehicle taken from, (this would enable vauxhals 2.5 v6 to be fitted if your rich and have too much time too spare he he)

I am on the lookout for another box..
I know that the ones I have seen are hydro clutch, ..
I wonder if the omega flywheel/clutch will fit on the 8v cav?
Great if it does, but im not so sure.
Does anyone else know..

if you use the earlier omegas they are because they used the old 8 and 16 valve engines pre ecotec, if you are struggling then give me a call sometime and ill see whats in my scrappy, theres normally a carlton or two about and quite a few omegas i noticed today 07867 858170
 
i think nath is right ,they are the same ,r25 isnt it?. does the manta box not fit the 8v as it does the 16v.[?]

yes it does but i cant remember the last time i saw a manta in a breakers or even advertised for spares, yes r25 and yes i love me vauxhalls, just casually watching two lotus carltons as we speak mmmmmm just need lottery win
 
i bought a manta box off ebay about 3 weeks ago for chris,s no.1 :)

hi there will i will be going for sure, as i go every year without fail. ive even had a couple of cars of my own on show there over the years,the first one being a triumph 2.5s and the next being a jaguar. ah those were the days.;)[^]:(

It starts on friday, but tickets for fri are expensive..
I think that it about 16 quid in to the NEC on sat and sunday Trev..
And about 26 quid on friday..The robbing swines..
I will prob be on and off the stand on Sun..

Im i think im gonna keep trawling the local yards..
I spotted a r25/28 box on the bay, but its from an omega,and looks
as if its hydro clutch?? Might be an easyier fit? also the speedo is
electronic..( not a major prob i know..)
I think I will end up buying a carlton for the nex conversion..
All i think i will need to do is turn the sump?or fab one & move the
pick up..Id better rebuild the van first !!!!
