its been a long time since i posted on this thread, but just to let you know that the beast lives on. i never sold the van in the end to the irish gentleman, as he tried to do a dodgey deal with me and a bizzar one at that. he offered me five grand for the van but didnt want the red interia, he didnt want the wheels and tyres, he dint even want the reg documents as he said he had another van back home and that i could keep the docs myself incase i wanted to use them. mmm i wonder why he wanted the van then?,ha ha. so anyway i decided to buy my own van back and put it on the back burner for a while. that is until now, i have taken the old perkins diesel lump out as it was so badly corroded internally that it also cracked the cylinder head in three or four places. i tried to find another lump but to no avail, so i have opted to replace it with a petrol engine instead . so the engine is now in place and i just have a few pipes and linkages to sort out and with a bit of luck it should be on the road just after christmas along with lees the dog. funny they seem to have taken about as long as each other to complete. haha. watch this space.:p;)

dont get too excited though as its only a 1725 standard engine haha pennies wont stretch far enough to have a v8 yet:( but at least i will be on the road at last.:p

Hi Glyn and welcome indeed to the Madhouse:D
Is that the engine with huge head bolts that go right through the block to hold the bottom end together and suffer from dreadful head gasket problems:I
It would probably be possible to adapt one but far more easy options out there (none of which are easy:I)

How refreshing

the 1.8's are pretty bad but the 2.0's are much less prone to head gasket if looked after and not pushed to hard. in a commer they would probably be a bad idea though as limited air for cooling will make HGF much more likely

thats not a good idea then ,what about those 1500cc renault diesels, between 56 bhp and 90 bhp .they have been out for a few years.they are useing them in nissan n v 200 vans [transit size ] the fuel consumption is between 47 to 58 mpg . so a similar engine out of a old renault kangoo may do the job . i am on my third ldv ,i had a 1800cc b type engine then a 2,000cc one ,now a 1900

depends what you want, the 1.8 auto sierra lumps are good engines CVH (type) and would be alot more powerful. think the renault diesel would probably struggle on the hills alot. and there is always the superb cavalier 8 valve lump. i was tempted to look into a 2.0l from a mazda E2000

it is nice to see od vans still running ,but i would like a newwer engine in for better all round perforance ,mataince

my brothers sherpa mini bus with the 1500cc diesel was a slow thing .40 bhp. i thought todays with 56 bhp or more would give better m p g with exess speed .

i dont really want to do this , but ive tried selling this beast on a number of occasions, only to be let down and messed about by the bidders etc, so i may be considering, to cut some windows into the sides and add an interior to see if that makes a difference and get someone buying. maybe it being a camper will draw more interest. mmm what to do.?????????:([:0]
