Van driven but making loud dragging noise

Yes in mm. I had a similar problem when I fitted an electric water pump and did away with the belt driven one, it took me a few attemts but I got there in the end - can't remember which size it was now
So the 900 is too tight and the 925 to slack, it must be a 910 or 915 - I'd try a 915

my only concern now is the 900mm new belt I got may have been the right size I need but because the v shape is about 8mm it wouldnt fit, the 925 mm belt V is a lot thinner like 4 mm at end of v compared to 8mm v on 900mm belt , I think the 900 mm belt could fit if the end of the V was 4mm INSTEAD of 8mm , , basically the 900mm and the 925mm belt are different in every way , 900mm is a much chunkier belt than the 925mm belt , CONFUSED ? me to . I dont understand how the manual says 952mm long but now I am looking for a 915mm belt

Maybe one of the pulley wheels was replaced and is larger than the original one? Are all the belts from different manufacturers? If so then you could see if 925 make does a 900 etc

I think panky is right with the 915 to 920mm as if u look at the photos , I think it's the fourth photo of the fan belts which is the original belt , the one with the green writing on it ,, it's a simtex belt and I think it says 355 or 356 with letters the the number 92 which I think means 920mm , with 40degree V SHAPE with I think 10 mil witdh on the flat top. So I am going to order one . I dont think anything has been changed on the pulley , I think it's just that it's a dynamo ,,

Anyone know what this is for , Also got the right fanbelt , , 40degree V , Measurement s I in picture , it's all down to the V DEPT ECT , I was in every motor factors in Dublin , In the end a guy from a small backyard garage told me to go to a place that does bearings ect , I will put the name up incase anyone needs them f ur stuck for a belt , once again thanks everyone really appreceated ,17289987573448879938150464631832.jpg

Well done, perseverance paid off.
If the picture was taken of the bottom of the radiator then it's the radiator drain tap, if it's on the side of the engine then it the coolant drain for the engine. Be very careful if you try opening it as it could shear off.

Thanks panky, yeah I got there in the end , I am much happier that the fan belt is the same design as the original , i knew the V had something to do with it fitting properly , I bought 2 of that type . , it fits perfect, I had another look at the tap and it's on a plate attached to the engine and it has a steel hose at the back of it that goes into side of engine block, I think ur right its definitely a tap for some sort of fluid ,I wont be touching it , anyway the belt is on and seems ok , the van hasnt been drove properly for a couple of weeks so I cant judge if
ajustment is set up properly yet , red light stays on when started from cold but goes out after a couple of revs, havent drove it yet so will know then if it needs further ajustment. Thanks again for ur help, Reliance bearings and gears is the name of the place I got the proper fanbelt , might be one in england

Excellent you got the right one.
Yeah got there in the end , it's just frustrating when a supposedly easy job becomes a nightmare because of a simply part, I am just happy that I found out that the fanbelts that I thought were right size actually were not , lucky it didnt happy on a long journey , Thanks again soupdragon

Removable tinware around engine bay , what to use as a sealant , any ideas , also engine lid rubber , I also need to weld a pin hole upper part of exhaust before manifold , I thought its was manifold leaking but just seems to be a pinhole in the exhausts, I always drive with window s open anyway but just to play it safe I need to seal up engine compartment ,

There is a special seal for the lid it looks something like this

But you can get away with self adhesive high density foam strip, you can use it on the side panels to. 20mm wide by 10mm thick would do the job.

THANKS Panky ,

Can you cut a beer can and wrap it round with some wire and exhaust sealant as a temporary fix. I had to do similar as gasses were blowing a hole in alternator.

I'm not sure if that is the exact one for the lid maybe you could ask them for a sample to try.

Where would I get a beer can ?

Thanks panky soupdragon, definitely need a seal and exhaust leak fixed , I was stuck in trafficking for 2hours tonight, still high from the fumes , the other thing that's a bit concerning is my oil pressure gauge is like a rev counter the more I rev the engine the more it reads more
Unfortunately a whiskey bottle won't work so you'll just have to slum it ;)

I have had a FEW drinks but love the replys

Hi all , as I was saying in my last comment the oil pressure gauge is like a rev counter , at idle its reads 40 to 45 then when revved it goes upto 50 the it can go down to about 25 , had it on a good 16mile run today and when I pulled up it read 25 I added a litre of oil the other day just to top it up , i dont know if this is a normal reading , only been looking at the gauge since my last incidence so could of been like this for a while , van seem to be running well , Do i need to check anything or is it ok or ? Regards Tintop
