Vacuum advance

Hi All,

Related to my other thread a bout misfiring. I have tried tonight to test the vacuum advance (as taking the pipe off seems to make no difference when revving the engine and it seems to accelerate fine with no hesitation). I can move the plate by hand although the spring tension seems quite strong.

Is it possible to test the vacuum advance by sucking on the pipe? I tried this but nothing moved in the dizzy although I guess that it needs a much bigger to vacuum to move? Is this the case or do you think that the advance movement may need looking at?

I have checked the new carburettor and it is sucking fine.

if you suck on the pipe, you should see the dizzy base plate moving clockwise by about 3-5 degrees ish. I managed to move mine quite easily.

The diaphragm inside the vacuum unit (the flying saucer thing) can perish and not work any more.

I presume you have a 45D dizzy? I don't know if the vacuum advance units are available... here is one but I think it is for a 25D

Thanks for all your help everyone.

I shall have to try and get to one the meets at some time.

Our van is having a respray and an overhaul this winter after our trip to France in July and Isle of Wight in September.

Best thing I ever bought!!!!!
