usual thing... gearbox adjustment!

Anybody give me some advice about the o/d and gearbox adjustment set up please? - i know i need the special (churchill) tool, but need to have a go without it. I had to change the top plate to the gearbox, as the operating link inside was worn and didn't operate the switch to the o/d when 3rd / 4th selected. The new plate does this. However the linkage all looks a bit tight... with the rod with the nylon ends fouling on the gearbox mount... I have wound the gear lever rod back to give clearance, but now the gear box feels solid and won't budge?? Will have another go tomorrow evening, and wind in back a bit... but any advice would be good please. Cheers Ray

Are you shure you lined every thing up when you changed the top plate, and can you move the lever back and to without it connected to the linkage.
