I have seen a number of "widgets" advertised on ebay that reckon they allow you to use unleaded petrol without the addition of an additive to allow its use in an old lead petrol engine.

Apparantly you just drop the object in the tank and it reacts with the fuel.... and lasts forever

Is this snake oil/ shinola or pure horse sh*t

sounds a bit unbelievable to me

Lee, these things have not passed the tests for additives as far as I'm aware. I'd only use 'approved' ones like Valvemaster etc.

Seen these before myself and i won't go near it. As Tim says, if things were that easy engine makers would be overjoyed! Stay well away i reckon!

As the others say, avoid like the plague. I don't know how trading standards haven't stopped tat like this being sold. You're better off with an unleaded head or a decent fuel additive (I use Castrol Valvemaster Plus).
 
I thought it was a load of Tosh!, i was looking at a classic for sale with "runs on unleaded due to catalyst fitted" I think they/the buyer will come unstuck. Im sure it runs ok but i bet serious problems will soon become apparant - unsure how long running a leaded on unleaded would last before presenting a problem......

Some years ago they tested one of these in Practical Classics in a B series engine. Result - it was knackered!
