Ugly or Beautiful?

Hmmmm...Definately not my cup of tea!;)
Commers have such a classic look but the always seem to be overshadowed by the VW, maybe things are on the change??

Totally agree with you there. Funny thing is i have been looking around the net today and things are definatley changing. People are starting to tire of the VW and are turning their attentions to other types of vans. I don't think Mr Kipling ads and childrens tv shows with Vee dubs racing around in the background have done many favours? My sister has a Westy split screen and has had it yonks, i was chatting to her yesterday as she has been pestering me to go to Santa Pod BugJam for ages, so i have agreed to go this year and to be honest i'm really looking forward to it. She reckons that a few Commer's have been going for a few years now and almost allways get swarmed on by piccy takers. I read just today on a thread in a VW Forum and a chap in there reckons that the Commer is the new VW!!! Get in there;-)
It's allways going to be a healthy debate on these two vans but in fairness it's not soley about the van in my opinion it's the people - At the end of the day we all have the most important thing in common....Beautiful Classic Camping Vans;-)

I'm very biast to Rootes but I must admit that keeping any classic on the road no matter what make is important. I've been looking for a good Commer van for a while now and its noticable how the VW outnumbers any other vans on auction sites etc. VW's are iconic but I think the design of the PA/PB is iconic 'British' and that worth being proud of;)

Well said matey. You're very right there - The community will never be as big as VW but i personally prefer to own something a little harder to attain than the many hundreds of VW's that are currently up for sale at very " UNREASONABLE " prices!!! I'm sure that in many eyes of the VW community we are still very pipe and slippers in comparison but hey;-)

Hope you find the Commer of your dreams soon. I never realised before just how rarely they come up for sale for a nice one. Can you imagine what £7000 would buy you in a Commer? Most probably mint with just delivery miles on the clock! HA.

I was chatting tio my father a few weeks ago about adding a Commer camper to our small collection and he couldn't believe it when I told him the sort of prices they go for, just one holiday abroad can cost £1-2K, so for the same sort of price you could have a decent van and endless nights away and a good deal of enjoyment too!

thats right guys the commer is the new vw, and if you need any new panels to restore one you know where to come to for them.coventry commer panels .co. uk.;):p

Commer the new VW - I hope not, who wants the hype, the publicity, the hangers on (because it's cool), the prices [:0]. I think we'll stay as we are - unique, special, stylish and British made. The next VW - we are far better than that.

A brilliant weekend - you've seen the pics and read the reports, it was one of the best[^]. Wonderful to see the coach-built's getting the attention they deserve when Colin and Helen's Autohome got 'Members Choice' and very well deserved it was[^] The big fellers rivalled the panel van conversions in number as well as quality - a sight to behold:p

There certainly is something special about being 'uncommon', there are so many VW's but when we see a Commer it always attracts more interest from passers by. And I definately agree that we don't want silly VW prices!!
kjh;)
