I have odd tyres on chrissie, which would appear they have cracked through standing rather than tread worn. So, made an enquiry at a local used tyre company for 4 x 165r15 and was told no longer and to use alternative. Hmmm.. What do you all put on your camper?? Anyone have a set they may be looking to sell??

I was thinking the same... I have slightly small wheels and think that a set of shoes might be part of my answer to improved performance speed.

Panky. Are who's a touch smaller at that size than the original radials. Martin was suggesting Michelin X. But I need that translated...

Harvey's tyres are pretty much the diameter they should be, nice high profile. Arthur's did look quite a low profile but I put that down to the visual effect of the white walls - maybe I was wrong. He may have been fitted with 14" rims at some point although he should have 15" ones.

So here's a picture of my tyre...

So I have 185mm width tyres (could go wider?) and on a 15 inch rim... But I don't get an aspect ratio that would tell me the actual diameter of the whole tyre... Or is that the 48 number?

Thoughts...

I'm no expert but I thought it would be 85%, but when I looked it up it could be 80%, 82% or 85%.

Some info I've found,
The MOT manual states: Unless marked otherwise, "standard" car tyres have a nominal aspect ratio of 82%.

Just seems to be one to think about in the future... If the speedo runs higher than the speed I'm actually driving at then in the past it must have had larger diameter wheels...

The old cross ply tyres were larger dia outside, but still 15". 185R15c is the normal size we use.

I managed to get the same rolling circumference to the originals to within a couple of mm:)

Ok so, I've been offered a set of either 165 80 15 or a set of 185 r 15c. Which you anyone think is better or no real difference? Tempted for the 165 to keep original? Thoughts please.

The 185's will be a slightly larger diameter (about 1 1/4") so you will up-gear slightly and have a higher final drive - better cruising but your speedo will read a bit higher. I've got them on Harvey an I find they work well:)

does the c stand for commercial as in van rated ?

Yes the C is light commercial or light truck rated. Car tyres on a commer would be dreadful and squash all over the place.

I just need a good rootes...
 
I doubt modern cars weigh as much as our classic cars,yes would be very squishes!I have been around Commer's long enough to know you use van rated tyre's they have a stiffer side wall for load ? iirc.
