Got some bits through the post at last, running total for this mini project: manifold £15, two HIF 38's £10 each.
These fit directly on to the fanimold with no mods. The pic above is just the carbs bolted on to the manifold, with a throttle linkage made from a "turnbuckle?"
Next jobs:
Knock up a heat shield
Improve on the throttle linkage
Sort out a way of working both chokes. I was thinking of using a set up similar to the brake cable set up on a push bike with a yoke to form a "Y" piece.
Sort the needles...WinSu suggests starting with a pair of AAC or AAV needles
Cobble together an air filter set up.

AHHH forgot to mention if any one is interested, I choice the HIF's over the HS4? carbs because separate fuel bowl on the older HS carbs would mean that these wouldn't have fit. I also prefer the HIF carb, as the jet is well protected from knocks and bangs

Looking good yes HIF,s are much better. We run the Riley with twin KIF,s but with only one choke connected with a cable and bike choke lever, it works ok

the choke cable from a triumph stag has two inners.

Do you have the ali headed 1725 in your van then? If not this manifold wont fit

It sure is an alloy head Jon. Most probably sunbeam rapier unit
