I put 2 solid years and a small fortune into trying to keep mine roadworthy and it just isnt. I work on real vintage harry miller indy cars and other exotics at work , most have flatheads or offy motors so its safe to say i am well proficient in the field. Its my expert opinion that the drivetrain for any commer van meets only the absolute minimum requirements for modern in-town driving and is completely useless on the interstate. i am 100% into period correctness UNLESS the factory got it wrong. In this case rootes group failed to make a landmark vehicle.
We didn’t have many motorways in the 60’s lol and the government (state) run companies bought a lot if them for city and town use and we sat back and rested on our laurels and the rest of the planet surged ahead ie ford. Don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking anything isn’t that what happened?
...........would never swap it for a Transit though lol
Underpowered by today's standards yes, but be thankful we're not into Standard Atlas vans. Quirky they are but originally powered by a 998cc Standard engine that also went in the first Triumph Heralds - now that's scary even for the early 60's
