Tigger's Bouncing!!!!

although I have previously fitted overdrive to smurf, all the wiring etc came from a donor vehicle, so I didn't have to worry about how it all went! ..I'm useless at reading wiring diagrams so will need some help along the way:)

I have been looking at this diagram posted by BMM but I really cant make much sense of it all http://www.askthemechanic.co.uk/classic-cars/sunbeam-alpine/fitting-overdrive-gearbox.html

this is a pic of the inhibitor switch but there is no marks on it for + or - ...so what goes where?

It's just an on/off switch, so wires can go either way ;)

Is this any good for me? I know you all said 8 1/2'' this one is 8'' ??

You cant beat a good 8ins Colin! It will be absolutely fine, just less friction material on the flywheel and pressure cover thats all. It will make no difference to the running of the van.

well I havent bought it yet...been waiting for pay day (2moz hopefully) then I will ring Speedys and see what they have and compare prices:D
obviously I will need a longer speedo cable to marry from the D-type o/drive to my speedo any ideas what to ask for? ...they should know I guess:)

The standard one is long enough but the gearbox end is different (well it is on the 'J' type) You may have to get one made up - or modify the commer drive connection to fit the OD gearbox:I

Hi Colin, The original speedo cable should go straight on to the "D" TYPE box as should the linkage. the only drawback might be that the speedo could be out, check this with satnav. speedo should run 5%to10% faster than satnav which is suposed to be entirely accurate. If your box came from a commer it could well be ok depending on wether it was originally fitted from new and wheel/tyre size.
good luck! ;) Trev
