Tich's Pb ongoing work

Hi all, I think I have now solved the fumes problem in the cab now, fuel leakinig out from the carbureter. I have also just replaced the lock on the back doors as it could be opened with any key before. I purchased it from speedy spares, the van now locks which is good news.
With all the rain we have been having I have not had much chance to get under the van and check the underneath properly. I am pleased to say everything is in very good order with no sign of any major rusting, in fact hardly any rust at all.
With the rain I have noticed that there has been a little bit of water running into the cab in the foot wells. I have checked that out today and it seems that there is a pipe going down which looks like a drain pipe, this was blocked at the bottom which I have now unblocked and the adjoining pipe is very rusty. The unit that the heater is on which the water runs down is very rusty and needs replacing. Does anyone know where I can get the part and also how easy it is to replace.
I feel good now today as I actually managed to go out and get something useful done.
Thanks for your help everyone and sorry if I am boring you;)

Youll find that the heater mounting assembly is rusty on most Commers, with the exception of a few 'pristine' examples..You wont be able to source a new one most likely, many people are lucky enough to repair it or fabricate something suitable.Ive removed mine and am planning to relocate the heater assembly on the cab floor ahead of the engine bay, its currently under the floor, and fits nicely but i have concerns it may be reducing airflow to the rad.
Boring?, nahhh!, its good your getting involved with us...but is that a good thing?..lol![}:)][}:)]:D:p

bored? commers are still my favourite subject 10 years on.

I had the same thing on both vans- as mentioned it is a common problem.
Heater mounting box just rotted out on first van and was 2 or 3 mm of metal away from falling onto carpet altogether.
Bessie also had water in same place in middle of cab floor and have hopefully sorted it.
First thing was to get engine running with heater fans turned on warm rather than hot and then squirt loads of WD40 into air intake on the nose of the van. Oil then heats and coats inners and lifts water away from metal.
I will warn you that it does smoke the cab out for a while - and after you solved your fuming problem too - so leave it running with windows open for a good while to clear. The smell does wear off quite quickly - or it did in my case - apologies if it doesn't with yours.
My van nose has a fine mesh grill over air intake which I lightly drizzled with plumbers' silicon grease - not enough to block holes, just a wipe over, and ran some between outer edge of nose vent and bodywork. This has stopped rain from running into heater box - water just bounces off vents and gap where it had been getting through and sitting in bottom of heater.
I did this about 6 months ago - over very wet last winter - and it still works and hasn't had any side effects so far.

Silicon grease also pretty good if you have leaky windows, doesn't react with rubber and repels water away from gaps. Has solved a few of my leaks - some are more stubborn.
Good to hear that van getting the attention that they all deserve - hope weather holds for getting underneath.
