Thowman's PB

Well, I hope you're feeling generous as the asking price is in excess of £7,000, though I'd probably take a little less. It's had a very expensive rebuild and is pretty much a new car. Also mechanically excellent (and unlike Bernie's, it doesn't overheat), and is much nicer than a mini! ;-)

These were taken on the Imp weekend in Pandy last year - I think you and Barb might have taken this trip up over Hay Bluff? We were tempted taking the Commers up there in May, but chickened out after having to reverse a convoy of about 20 imps back up a quarter of a mile so a tractor could get past us going the other way.

what a beaut! when all projects are finished I am tempted with another classic

Where's Baz when you need back up? Well, he's in a damp field in Wales that's filling up with Imps.

Sorry - Imps are much better cars than Minis. As the Practical Classics journo that did the article my car was featured in: the imp engine revs to speeds that would have A series valves bouncing around like a punk pogoing to the sex pistols; the steering's as good as the mini, but with the steering wheel at a sensible angle; the driving position is leagues ahead and the tight gear change is much better than you get on most cars, let alone the mini's punting at cambridge type magic wand.... cc for cc, go and see the BTCC where 998 minis are no match for 998 imps, and the imps are on par with the minis that have an extra 277cc. Add to that the Imp looks much nicer than a mini - especially the coupe like mini - means that I am afraid that's there's no competition really. Minis for us impers are the darkside :) Much more common and popular but just not as nice.

Having said that, I wish I had the availability of panels that you can get for the mini, they rust about the same, and I will be changing the front end of a mini for someone shortly. I don't mind earning a few notes from them, but wouldn't want to own one thanks....

I'll take my tongue out of cheek now [}:)]

I am afraid Babs won't be going to Bangor. I can only drive one vehicle, and will be taking the chamois

If you need somewhere warm and dry you'll be able to find us no problem and I'll put the kettle on
See you tomorrow

Gladys :)

Lol. Am agreement to SOME of your comments, I have an early.1275gt, and so am seen as a darksider within a darksider. There are some Crap panels out there, and if you can talk the owner into it the heritage panels are so much better quality fit and thickness wise. Saving you so much time in getting panels to fit. I found this out the hard way. Congrats on the engine. I will be speaking to speedies first thing Monday to assess my.options

Have a great time in bangor. Would have loved to have been there, but work and a holiday beckons. Maybe next year. Can't way for the pics on here and in the imp club website

I didn't take many pics, too busy socialising. Some can be seen here: http://forum.theimpclub.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=19160

Spare a Commer Guv?

Well, I think I have found out what is causing the idling problems for Babs. Today I replaced the carb for a different one - and it made no difference. Then I tried the old WD40 test, and as soon as I sprayed it over the rear of the inlet manifold, the engine speed picked up quite a lot. So, it seems I have a manifold that isn't sealing properly and an air leak weakening the mixture.

So, I have to take it off again, and try putting it on a bit better - mind you it wasn't me that put it on :). Any tips anyone. What is the best order to do the bolts up to get a good seal?

Well, finally some positive news on the Babs front. I have had the manifolds off, cleaned everything up, got some new studs (a set of triumph ones) and bolts for the lower holes, bolted the manifolds back on and tightened it all up with the centre studs first and working outwards and I can now report Babs has moved under her own power on the open road again for the first time since 6th May, 7 miles from Pandy.

Well, I can report that the new £50 engine seems to be ok. It certainly runs well and is far less noisy than the previous one. The is a bit of a rattly noise when it's idling, but apart from that it's miles better than the previous lump.

So, will be going to the Bedford Show on the 4th as a trial run, and then will be intending to head up to blackpool on the 17th, and then back to Pandy on the 23rd for the Welsh imp meeting.

Big smiles in Ivinghoe tonight. I drove to Tring and back to get some fuel, and so far 10 miles without fault.

That's all for now.
