If you can track down Nancy (Nancye on here) she's been living in her Commer (Tramps) for about 7 yrs now and has a wood burner installed. Pretty sure it sits on a couple of paving slabs and you'll probably need one against the wall behind it too, or if it's on the corner one on each wall? Cut a hole in the roof and fit a chimney and seal it all up against the weather, connect the chimney to the stove. Have a full sized fire extinguisher to hand at all times.

I'm sure there's more but I think those are the basics having looked at Nancy's at the first WCW.

We use a cement based fireboard, for around woodburners. It's about 10mm thick, ideal for use in a camper. You would need to line the walls behind all the flue and use a fire collar, as it goes out of the roof. I'd hate to see all that work go up in smoke [V]

I have had the little stove running - i think I might need to put some more air holes in it as it goes out every couple of hours - and no, no news on the Dog - but i did pick up the keys for the house in lincolnshire this week....... first thing i discovered in the kitchen....... walls lined with asbestos panels..... BUGGER!

Whatever you do DO NOT touch those panels, its a job for a specialst firm. My dad died a couple of years ago of Mesathelioma caused by Asbestos fibres, it was a horrible way to die and you would not wish it on anyone, it takes just one tiny fibre to kill you and they can lay dormant for years in your lungs before causing a problem and there is NO cure just death! Please be very wary before even touching it, it if it looks flaky or rough edged dont even look at the bloody stuff....Same goes for Asbestos roof panels, old boilers, old car brake shoes, clutches etc etc etc.:(quote:

My Dad too. He's one of the lucky ones, as his has only so far got to the stage of hardening of the lining to the lungs so he can still inflate his lungs enough to breathe without help; but lung capacity is severely reduced meaning any exertion and he's out of breath very quickly.

Sorry to hear that Baz :(. I am not sure that to point out that my dear Grandad did not suffer with it for many many years more so that it did not effect him until many years later is of any worth nor comfort. It was really tough to see simple things, just talking become to much of a struggle with lack of breath but he still managed to be a silly bugger :).

I wish you and him my best wishes Baz :)

Cheers Jon,

He's very pragmatic about it all. It's not got any worse for a good many years so he's happy enough. Still does most of what he wants, just at a slower pace than in the past. Then again he is 80 in July so I suppose he should slow down a bit!

Im sorry to hear that as well Baz.
My dad worked with the stuff from when he left school at 14 up until he retired, he was fit and well up to when he was 82, he was still playing 18 holes of golf 3 times a week! He suddenly became breathless and that was that.....9 months later he was gone.
I have an uncle who has the same thing but has it like your dad and he`s still with us 20 years later at 86!
Plays on your mind though when you have spent years changing brakes, clutches etc with no face mask or dust extraction facilitys:(

.. I got a couple more photos via text from woolfie, will post this evening as i cant get on photobucket at work
