Jeez, that's the worst possible outcome ever, sorry for you to have that happen to you mate. I'm sitting here, feeling really angry. What is it with cars that brings the scum of mankind out of the woodwork?? I expect it's the £££s. I've had to deal with my fair share of t0$$ers when buying/selling cars in the past, but this is on another level. I must say, the old boy sounded a little gullible and should have honoured the fact that your left the considerable deposit... but then I suppose he is old and probably vulnerable.
Steve this is a nightmare for you and your family, it must seem so totally upsetting and confusing for the guy who got ripped off and lied to by that scum calling himself a scrap dealer - a dealer in deceit and greed more like. Not many of these vans come up for sale but you seem to find the majority of them - but I'm afraid this one is destined to be crushed as no one with any sense of decency will touch it again. The One will arrive very soon - that radar is legendary. All I can say is that think again about selling your beloved 'Scort, don't let it become a victim of this unfortunate episode as well - use the funds you had set aside for the other one and don't let a knee jerk reaction force you into something you will regret. Give it a few days to cool and re-assess.

Pikeys, Travellers, Gypo`s etc are the most intimidating people you are ever likely to meet and deal with, especially if your an oap or in any way timid. Fact is if the guy had`nt sold it to them they would likely have come back later and helped themselves to it anyway! In law the seller had entered a legally binding contract to sell you the van and you could sue him....but you would`nt have the van.
