but what effect do they have on your speed and do you need to recalibrate your speedo?

I've just dropped a pair of 15" wheels onto Jessica (high heels?!?!) and as expected she isn't so nippy, but obviously the speedo will be wrong, does anyone have any idea what the difference will be? Are there different speedos for vans with 15" and 14" wheels?

I would suggest going out with a sat nav that tells you your speed and noting the difference
 
the speedo will read slightly slow, usually there are different drive gears available to suit :)

Either Speedo reads slightly out on Bessie or Glyns' car is out (or both) but when we are in convoy there is a 10mph difference between us, might be worth recruiting an ally to follow Jessica to help give idea on your speedo[?]

Assuming the speedo was accurate with the earlier wheels, there are several on-line calculators that will work this out for you if you know a few other parameters already, sorry I cant recommend one as I dont seem to have bookmarked any but google should be able to supply.

if anyone wants help calibrating speedo and can get to Gloucester i have a vauxhall carlton with a digital readout speedo so not the old unreliable needle analogue stuff!! have used it several times for such purpose[8D]
 
Is the 14" or 15" the diameter to the road edge of the tyre?

If so times your speedo speed by 1.07

and if someone tells me otherwise, i will let you know the multiplication factor for that :)

14 & 15" is the wheel diameter not the tyre... so I just got off my bum and measured the circumference of the tyres...

208 cm for the 15" and 198 for the 14" (measured in the dark with my jammies on!) which gives a ratio of 1.05

so:
30 = 31.5
50 = 52.5
70 = 73.5

if its 1.07

we get
30 = 32.1
50 = 53.5
70 = 74.9

note the 70 mph figures are for reference only!

Thanks all for the advice to test with sat nav, I'll try to find someone with one I can borrow.

It's worth noting that most speedo's over-estimate by about 10% anyway. Bigger wheels have probably made it more accurate. Anyone with GPS will confirm this.
