The Van Flipper!

I borrowed one of these years ago and they certainly are good. Problem is they cost about as much as a commer van.

Using memory, the internet, some cheap cider and broken biro I came up with a plan to make my own. The complicated bit (for me) is the threaded bit - so I decided to miss that and use a Landrover jack instead.

I scaled everything up a bit so that it will be able to flip a commer.

Still very much work in progress (or not as I haven't actually done any for 3 weeks) The idea is begining to take shape. Most of the steel is offcuts from the local metal yard. I was really lucky to find two discs already cut in 12mm plate. They still took 2 1/2 hours each to drill out...

I'm working on them at a mate's workshop. hopefully get a chance to do some more work in a few weeks time.

Then i'll be able to underseal my various rusty cars with ease!:D
 
Sounds like a good plan I'm sure it would be ok probably best to do some calculations on the weight distribution of the van though. practice on the morris minor! They were "spit roasted" in the factory (rotadipped). You have a good lot of morris parts scattered around there.
Once its done, I'm sure there will be lots of us wanting a loan of it
saying that I did the undersealing the traditional way [V]

Okay I still haven't got around to making commer mounts but the flipper has been hard at work on the alpine.

The slight bow you can see in part of the box was caused by excessive heat while using oxy to cut some holes and certainly isn't due to weakness.

The jacks are rated to 3 tons each (not sure i really believe that given they were £42 each on ebay...) A the pivot points are high tensile M20.

The only modification i've made to the original design is to add a few more mounting points to help shift the center of gravity.

Okay I'm just showing off now but here's some picture of my modification to the floor (a la flipper) to enable a watts linkage to be fitted.
