The thing about commers is......

Glyn has just said as far as he has seen there hasn't been any welding done apart from bit he did on step last MOT, pretty miraculous really.
Long may it continue[^]

Tried out my newly crafted exhaust as built by Glyn from a combination of Mk2 cavalier and Mercedes 2.4 diesel systems. Now passes officially as what is known locally as a big boaar eggsost[:0] (mostly 2inch diameter)
What a vast difference! Had a wonderful drive up to Aberystwyth along the coast road and only needed to change down to 3rd going downhill rather than any of the long climbs - and now sits happily at 55 - 60mph instead of strained. Happy Bessie:)

well done studio :), i keep telling everyone , the exhaust system is critical in power/economy. let those commers BREATHE :D

Have been enjoying camping out in Bessie - even in last nights storm. Trouble is have got starter motor trouble so I may need to trace another one fairly quickly - haven't got a lot of pooter access for shopping around - if anyone has anything can you add it here with a price you want and I'll check in again when I can

Well hello there, back from my adventures for a while so hoping to get a chance to catch up with forum events soon - lovely to see it so busy and well supported with loads of new members - welcome all[8D]

Had a lovely thing happen whilst out on my hospital visiting duties - arising from an overnight stay in Bessie in the hospital car park (I know all the glamorous places[:X];))

I had a visitor in the morning [8D]- happily not the car park warden, but Bessies' previous owner Sam who was taking part in a conference at the hospital and spotted Bessie and came over to say hello. I didn't get a chance to meet her when I bought the van so was delighted to able to have time to get the kettle on and have a natter in the cab about van news, apparently Bessie had a five speed gear box when Sam first got her but was dreadful trying to pull off from standing - and had an interesting drive down from Scotland. Hoping to keep in touch and find out more about Bessies' history and will say hello to Sam here, hope you enjoy forum:)

Went rummaging yesterday looking for my old autosleeper badge and found this pic tucked away - Martha at Whitesands 1998 not a bad old bus really[:X] - the bit of rope was there for the roof to close down on in high winds to keep the drafts out

oh yeah thats what commering is all about. I would love to get Jessica by the seaside for some shots like that, but haven't managed it yet!

By the way what is that strap on the front of the poptop made of? We don't seem to have one!

Cheers Martin :D[}:)]:D not sure that sybhils up to that though :I
sybhil hasn't got a strap on the roof either so when you work out how to fix it let me know :) I think it is a strong nylon strap?

now that sounds like fun :D:D:D

strap is a webbing type stuff bit like upholstery & old vehicle door hinges - can get pic of where it fixes if you need one.

Location is a regular favourite at Abereiddy - an abandoned slate quarry which the sea has taken some big chunks out of and has a flooded quarry pit called the Blue Lagoon, is one of the possible overnight options for anyone wanting to get a Pembrokeshire commer meet in sometime :)

I can see on sybhil where the strap should be on the roof above the cab,but not sure how it fixes in the pop top part of the wood ? still hoping to come to wales when finances allow :(

Hey guys,

A Welsh meet would be great!!! There seems to be quite a few members in Wales and it would certainly be a fab place for a beautiful venue! :D:D:D

Maybe sometime next year[?]

Can't wait....:)

This year would be fantastic :p
but fuel ....[V][xx(]:([:(!]
I am the eternal optimist ;) soon will be ok or next year acceptable :D[}:)]:D

Shell Island has been mentioned but some of the places Kes has shown us near her look very tempting. Howz about it Kes, think of anywhere a couple of dozen (it could happen) Commers, and a small tent, could park up [8D]

'Harvey the RV'

should be a few options open here - could even wait for small tides and put your tent on the beach Panky - doesn't get much more of a sea view than that :D

Know what you mean about the fuel Chris [V]- will be a major factor in Bessie being able to make it to CVF meets, will have to get a windsurfing rig on the roof soon to save the petrol;)

Things quieter out of season here - main industry is tourism so early Autumn a nicer time to visit. Shell Island still sounds interesting too (still a fair way for me) it looks to be good for the North Walians and the Liverpool areas - and somewhere I haven't seen so would be interesting to explore:)
