As chasbaps mentioned with frodo on the road and yori was back with a new diff fitted so we decided on a sunny Sunday jaunt to visit the other van and be a bit festive.

Here they are re-united again after a ten miles or so

Here is yori feeling festive now (and th other reason for the trip)

One the way back however yori lost power in 4th completely, so minky changed down a gear it was fine but changed up and nothing so we started pulling over when smoke was coming from behind the dash [:0]
I jumped out and looking at the front and decided as it was smoke rather than steam to get the extinguisher.

I opened up the engine and there were flames!

Cue evacuation of liza, fire extinguisher emptied into the engine bay and retreat to a safe distance whilst waiting for the emergency services to confirm it was out.

Well I had managed to put it out apparently then yori was recovered to a very nearby yard awaiting assessment!

Not really - FB assumed it to be fuel lines on the manifold (that's happened before to me on my MK1 fiesta!!) hence it being reasonably easy for me to put out.

Dear Santa,
This Christmas I would like minimum engine damage.
I promise I've been a good girl!
Thankyouplease.

My poor little girl! :(

That's the weird thing, for all the smoke and flames I didn't notice any seating warmth! I could say it was because my arse is always hot, but I suspect it's more to do with the quantity of natural padding I carry :D

Very pleased hear your all OK, hope you get yori fixed all right.
Just as well campers have a fire extinguisher, had it been an ordinary van it might have been another storey.
MEMO; must check mine to see if it's full!
Cheers

Bad News.. But good to hear your both OK..
Hope the damage is not too severe..
I also once had a split fuel line, spraying the eng with petrol..
Could have been a LOT worse.. Good luck in sorting it out..
Will..

cheers everyone

Cannot recommend enough having an extinguisher on board (ours was a dual use vehicle and kitchen and cost about £15) it may actually have saved us money and especially as lightening, it would appear, may strike twice!

Yes it's great that you have all escaped with out injury :)especially minky's behind [:0]Glad all is well was lovely to see both vans sise by side again [^]looking forward to the next escape :D[}:)]:D
I will have to get a new extinguisher mines empty & laying in doors [:0]

And a new length of fuel line :I Good grief that must have been scary [:0] but a cool head (and a hot butt [}:)]) saved the day.

The insurance company have been in contact with Minky while I am here in Australia and claimed that their assessor has inspected yori and said that the fire was caused by wear and tear on of the electrics which burst in to flames. Not only do they claim not to cover this but we are also liable for the recovery cost.

I cannot begin to explain how wrong this is on so many levels! 1) how is fire not covered on fully comp 2) the vehicle was recently MOTd I mean what do you have to do for this to be a legit "fire"?!? 3) why the hell do we have to pay towing? we would have called the AA if for 1 second we, and the police and the recovery firm thought that we weren't covered 4) We think as confirmed byt the fire brigade that the fire was caused by fuel leak not an electrical fire as claimed[V][V][V][V]

Not only have they taken over 5 weeks to come to this conclusion they have blatantly come to a rubbish one!

MANY angry words will be had

Sounds like an insurance rip-off to me [:(!][:(!][:(!]

Would it be worth contacting these guys http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/

Good luck.

I have the no of an auto electrician he is very good perhaps an independant report is in order ;)fight them [?]I would but I probably wouldn't have tried to claim on this occasion.I asked the AA if I should have my 1959 riley rewired as I thought the wiring looked like old household wiring & a bit dangerous,he said no it's really good quality, absolutely no need to change it.

[:0] thats terrible news [V],theiving insurance vultures try to worm out of paying any way they can [:(!], different when they want your money :(

'orrible lot - they really take the biscuit sometimes[:(!].

Only consolation I had when messed about with my insurance was being able to un-recommend them to forum members - it is sometimes helpful to know who not to insure with and loses company some healthy trade. Good luck with disputing this one, you should stand a good chance if fire brigade will back you up. 'Ombudsman' has been a very effective word for me when speaking to dodgy insurers.
