The Norwegian Bluebird

Not a problem, really. The Bluebird is a cosy place to be even if there is Auto Union stuff scattered all around it.

And Ingolstadt may offer some of the best cars money can buy (although not back then in the 60s and early 70s when probably even a sewing machine was more advanced..), but they still can't give you a cosy lounge with the kettle on the boil - like the Bluebird can offer any time of the day ;)

Long live the Bluebird, and the Commer campers in general ! :)

Following last year's failed attempt to get the van to the test station, with fuel issues yet again, I knew I had to get to the bottom of it this spring. So when I got the phone call that it has to be moved out of storage soon (as the owner has rented the entire barn to someone else), it was "time".

Accompanied by the old "Self Starting SOLEX CARBURETTOR (B.F. and F. type) Fitting and Instruction Booklet", I got my hands dirty last weekend. Once the main jet had been located and removed, I could see a tiny obstruction in there and got the jet cleaned. Refitted it, and the engine started on the 2nd attempt - as usual (after sitting there the entire winter). It now revs as freely as it normally does, and purrs nicely at idle. Success ! Until next time..

Happy to get it running properly again, and now gearing up to move it to another barn - slightly closer to home. And the plan is to drop in on the test station on the way to get them to assess the work needed to get it road registered. But will be a few weeks still.

I won't, Bazz. It will be kept well away from the white stuff ! :)

The other van (KLP56C) is stored in a barn on the other side of the country, Panky.
Some 8 hours drive from us here in Oslo (!). What's left of it, that is..
Still, ever the optimist, I hope the other Bluebird could be flying again one day - but there is A LOT of work to be done and money to be spent to get it there. It is a complete and original series IIa Highwayman 5-berth conversion (ELD683C is a 4-berth with slightly different overhead cupboard arrangement as a result), that's what it has going for it. If it had been a ripped out example or with a non-original interior, there would have been no point in keeping it.

Just noticed that, must have needed more adjustment:eek: Either that or a badly placed tow rope:(

Hi Mary and welcome to the Madhouse:D You wont remember me but we met next April;)
I'm intrigued with you post about the size of Josteins's over head locker, have you one of your own to compare with that's attached to a Commer:)

Hi and welcome to the Madhouse Mary. Have you got a picture of the storage space in another Highwayman? Well done on the bluebird Jostein, good luck with the highwayman.:)

Had another look at the picture under the front of the van. Seems the bottom section of the radiator is covered with a flat sheet of something. Any ideas, there for protection or for cold climates to help keep the temperature up?? Local market add-on or DIY ??

I've seen it before but not fitted to all vans, may be a hang over from the FC models without a grille
