I think an all stainless highwayman would look amazing. Would weigh a bit though.
Not to mention the cost...
Yes unfortunately have to paint over. Lower half will be a dark georgian green and the upper will be the tudor white. But at $100 a litre it might be a little while before that happens. Taking a break today to smoke some fish and clean up the garden a bit. Thinking i might take another week off after next week and try to get Iceman to mot stage. ...

Its been a little while since my last post here so here goes
A sudden lack of funds put a damper on progress for a while but things are getting back on track. I have spent a huge amount of time working on the front panal as i have never been happy with the finish i had ended up with from last time. I pulled out all the filler and welded up the bumper mount holes in the valance. The keen eyed will notice the front has been slightly modified from how it was and i think it looks quite good[^]
The valance was chopped off and re welded back on after a thourough fettling to get the shape just as i wanted it. The flutes in the front took alot of work and are about as good as i can get them now. So after a marathon filling, sanding and priming session i at last am almost happy with the finish.
The upper part of the cab has been painted in the Tudor white which i am very pleased with. I still have to finalise the lower colour but it will most likley be a dark green. Once that is on the headlights, doors etc can go back on. A new set of headlight rims arrived this morning, all nice and chromey The only part i need for the front now is a pair of headlamp gaskets and the clear side and indicator lenses. Not going with the original orange as wont go with the green and i think it looks better with the twin clears.
Anyway enough prattle here is a pic or two...[8D]
The fres air intake has been blocked off as there is no need for it in this climate and the airbox was well beyond repair. The heater is still good but will just recirculate the cab air. I cant imagine a lack of air with all the gaps in a commer
That is stainless mesh behind the chrome grill which looks much better in the flesh. I wont be putting the original grill back on as there will be a custom one to go on...[8D]
I discovered yesterday there is two types of letters for the C O M M E R badge. A plain chrome type and a textured type. I prefer the plain ones so will go with those.

Been steadily plugging away on the Iceman. So while we all hold our collective breath for Woolfys NEW quarter lights here is a wee reveal of my own. Still a very long way to go but nice to see some progress.
Just waiting on the side and indicator light fittings to arrive so they can go on with the NOS clear beehive lenses.
Colours are Jaguar Tudor white and British racing green.

Thanks Mark. Will take a couple of days as i am getting the carby all sorted as well (amongst other things). He will then put it on a rolling road and see what its putting out power wise. Will be very interesting to see how much of a difference the engine mods have made.

Still waiting on the carby guy. He is retired and only does things in his own sweet time but i think it might have been done today. Mot guy said no worries, its 'imaculate' just cant put the sticker on 'till the speedo issue is sorted which needs an adaptor for the overdrive. With any luck will have it back for the week end

Turns out the exhaust manifold is somehow leaking through a stud hole[!] Unfortunately i have to pull it back off and investigate. Hope it didnt crack when i bolted it back on after moding it[B)]
Will have to wait for a few days but should be a quick fix with any luck. Other than that all good.[8D]

Only one issue to sort now. The rad is partly blocked causing overheating under load so it will have to come out and get a tank pulled off and the cores rodded out. Not a big drama but costs about $120. After that its ON THE ROAD!!!![^][^]

Drove back from the garage and all went well. Drives great
The first thing to finish was the quarterlights as without them done the other door glass couldnt be put in. Now all done[^]
Than it was onto getting the front grill finished. I have always prefered the earlier style grill with the three bars. It just suits the front of the van much better than the over sized gaping grin of the later style. With this in mind i set about trying to find one in ok condition but soon realised no chance exists of finding such a thing Only solution was to make it from new. I am in a biz group with a metal fabrication company and i got them to make the three bars in polished stainless steel. They are not a perfect match for the original but i think they look the part.
