THE ICEMAN restoration

Yesterday was the change to daylight saving time here and somehow we managed to get it wrong and set all the clocks two hours out. So today was a little shorter than it was expected to be[B)]Got stuck in and finished off the floor. Once that was done it was time to get the insulation into the walls and make a start on the roof lining.

Worked for the whole day on the roof today. Got the lining in with the help of a friend and it made it so much easier to do!
Once the ceiling was in i felt the overall strength was a little under what i would like so i decided to fillit each of the many corners with wood blocks. This also meant i could glue the seiling and the 'joists' together which has made for a remarkibly strong structure. Tomorrow the aluminium panals go on. In the mean time here are a few more pix for your delectation

. Ready for nice cruise[8D]Another very long day in the garage today. Got all the roof aluminium on. Turned out to be a mammoth job and needs at least two pairs of hands. Defo not a job to tackle unless you have the tools and knowledge as well as the help. Job for tomorrow is to finish fitting all the weather strips. The original guttering was made from a folded piece of sheet screwed to the side. The new gutters are solid drawn section as are the cover strips for the joins in the roof panals.
Once the roof is finished lining the interior is next on the list.

Fantastic job your doing,be a shame to cover all that shiney metal with paint.Wish i had the bottle to attempt to do my body work like this.
Hey thanks everyone for the really nice compliments. It is a lot of work, much more than i had expected but at least i enjoy doing it for the most part. Perhaps the thing that has surprised me the most is the shear volume of materials it is taking! Almost five hundred stainless screws in the roof alone!!
Really looking forward to getting this project done now that there is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel.
Cant believe im half way through my 'holiday' already...

If anyone else out there is thinking of doing some work on thier highwayman i am more than happy to share my experiences and any advice i can offer.

Weather here is crap at the moment so makes doing work on the roof a little more difficult but managed to get a couple of hours in today. In spite of weather, an injured neck and a cold!
Finished off the weather strips on the roof and almost all of the joins on the coachwork. I decided i didnt like the look of the screws i had used many years ago to install the windows so out they came to be replaces with countersunk stainless ones. Much better
So now all that remains to finish the roof is to remove and replace the fiberglass section over tha cab as i need to adjust how it fits and then to put new guttering around the section over the windscreen.
Once that is done it will be onto getting the interior fitted out. It has been lined with 4mm plywood and is ready for furniture except for the aluminium trim around the windows and door. These were in a very poor state so i will have to make up all new ones. Thinking about it apart from the windows and lights there is none of the original coachbuilt body remaining. Had i known this in advance i would have approached the build differently. Dont we all want 20/20 hind sight

Didnt get a whole lot done today as spent most of it running around town trying to source various bits of trim etc. Picked up some alloy finishing strips for the inside edges of the big windows as the originals were long gone. The trim for the small back windows is surprisingly in mint condition[?]
I also picked up the guttering for the front section of the cab as well as the edging for the front edges of the coachbuilt section. All these little bits take an age to sort but really make the world of difference. I had intended to get the paint on the wheels but that will have to wait to tomorrow and then its new tyres time[^]
With the last remaining light of the evening i pulled the front fibreglass section off as i was not happy with the way it fits. I am not too sure how to make it fit better but that is tomorrows problem[|)]

The bling is back!!!
Iceman was treated to a full set of new boots (and socks)
Wheels were sandblasted and primed. Then yesterday i spay painted them in the same colour as the cab. Its Tudor White which is a Jaguar colour from the 70s. Hub caps are the original and took ages to scrub up as they had been covered in overspray from some previous owners iffy paint job.
What do we think?
On another note i was not pleased with the line of the gutter over the cab. Somehow Iceman had got a squint[:0]
The solution was to slice a small sliver out of the roof and then use a bottle jack to push the gutter up to close the gap and weld it in place. Looks a bit grusome but did the job
Once that was sorted the fiberglass roof section went back on which was quite awkward to do on my own but got there.
