I will, may have to wait until retirement from the police in 5 yrs (will still have to work for another 10 yrs but not as a copper;)). In an ideal world I'll buy Peggy back but fully restored and running a nice efficient diesel engine and power steering!:D

So i brought the Icemans old rad down the the repair shop to get it recored. Thank goodness i thought to ask the cost before handing it over. They quoted $400 - $500! I nearly fell out of my standing. Looks like i will be getting the other leaky one repaired then...

My exalont speling is masked by beer!!!
 
Diesel? Power steering?? Efficient??? It wont be a Commer then It will be a Toyota!

That's a bit steep for a re-core[:0] Maybe measure up some modern ones and see it you can get a reasonable match.

Thats the plan John. In the meantime i will keep the leaky one as its good enough for test runs etc. I will pay a visit the wreckers and see what i can find.
Looking forward to being able to spend most of this week on iceman then away to Sydney for a long weekend as its the big 40 :-O on friday. I will have to update my profile!

A long day in the garage today. Spent all of it sorting the electrics out. What on earth were Rootes thinking? They have the most bizare set up! The feed to the voltage stabiliser for the fuel gauge comes from - you guessed it - the wiper switch[:0]
Re worked the whole lot itno two seperate modern blade type fuse boxes. One permenant live and one ignition live. Each and every circuit now has its own fuse and dedicated feed. Just got to run the wire feed for the overdrive and the vehicle electrics are done. Still got all the leisure circuits to do but they will be done with the interior fit out.
Tomorrows task is to sort the diff oil seal and get the Iceman driving![:0]:D Will post video of his first turn of the wheels in sooooo long...

Tried to get stuck in today but kept on getting interupted by various things. After struggling with the diff pinion nut for a while i borrowed a rattle gun off a mate. It struggled a bit but did get it off in the end. Unfortunately the old oil seal wes well stuck in and took ages to remove. I ended up chopping it to bits in place to get it out[:0]. Went to fit the new one and its the wrong size[:(!] New one ordered so should be here in the morning. Carried on by wiring up the overdrive which now clicks in and out nicely but will have to fettle the linkage as its possible to select overdrive in first and second by waggling the gear lever. Just got to tidy up a few loose ends on the electrics and they are done. Plan for tommorrow is to get the diff sorted and then fingers crossed the Iceman will drive out of the garage under his own power.:)

Order a couple of Mr Maltas' gear linkage bushes, apparently they make all the difference!

Already got new bushes in there. I rebuilt the whole linkage a while ago. After a lot of faffing i discovered the lockout switch was actuating a fraction early. Not the linkage or any adjustment fault. A thin washer under the switch solved the problem. Rebuilt all the rear lights today as there were loads of dodgy (Lucas) connections. Ripped the lot out and did it right. Couldnt get the drake lights to work today despite having rewired them and were working perfectly yesterday. Turns out the pressure actuated switch had given up the ghost. Put in the prop shaft and it went in no bother but it seems i was a little enthusiastic with the measuring and it is a wee bit on the short side. I think it will be fine as there is still most of the tail in the end of the OD. It cant fall out even on max deflection so all good. Put the oil in the diff and box in preperation for first drive tomorrow. Just got to figure some way to mount the heater to the front panal as the original airbox was held together by its paint!

All sounds good. You could always temporarily bypass the heater (join the two hoses together) to get it running?

The progress is relentless[^]
My prop came from a Hunter GT and went straight onto the OD without modification, it's about 3/4" shorter than ideal but I've not had any problems.

Went for a drive in the Commer this afternoon...

Yes you read that right!

I was a bit nervous as our drive is on quite a hill and there is nowhere to go if the brakes dont work[:0] Started him up and checked to see if the clutch had stuck but all seems well. Eased him gently forward and out blinking into the bright afternoon sun. His first in way to long. Then it was off down the road. I can only go about 100 meters as that is as long as the right of way i live on and i think the cops might have something to say if he was on public road with no lights, doors or seat belts. Not to mention no windscreen[:0]
Drives beautifully[^] Loads of grunt too...
Quick wipe with a damp rag and its off to get an MOT....Oh sorry that was a dream[:0][B)]
Now i can get stuck into getting the body into shape for the summer. This is the part i have been looking forward to doing. I enjoy the mechanical stuff but nothing like as much as kitting it out.
