The Dales and Beyond

We got back this evening after a great few days away after Commerfest[^] We started our trip on a site recommended by both Karen and Heidi at Holme Upon Spalding Moor. It's situated behind Baldry's bus garage and consists of a big immaculately kept field, shower and toilets, apart from us there was one small caravan and a tent:) The owners were away with their convoy of showman's wagons and fairground rides doing the steam rally circuit, shame we missed that:I instead we were greeted by Ann and Pete (they remember you Bernie and Heidi;)) who were in raptures over Harvey. They are planning a classic caravan and camper show next year and will send me details nearer the time if anyone fancies it. We moved on the next day and headed for the coast, first port of call was a photo oportunity at Flamborough Head - unfortunately we borrowed my daughters camera and haven't got the lead to upload pics yet:I We carried on and stayed at a site not far from Scarborough, it was fine but nothing special, and it was right on the main road, so I don't thing we will be going there again. We set off without any plan and hoped to find camping on the way (help with the info Jimmy and Mia gave us) but we were basically flying blind as we has never been in that neck of the woods before so we struggled to find what we wanted. It was Barb's birthday on Wednesday and as she had always wanted to visit the Dales we headed back inland to that most beautiful part of the country. We eventually found a site in Buckden after a fun drive up and down some 16% gradients, engine screaming in second gear, and stayed a couple of nights. The field is very small with only a couple of pitches suitable for a van - the rest is too steep, we had to push a new Fiat plastic thing up the slope Harvey had just sauntered up:I It was a loverly spot - the only draw-back was the pub had just closed down after the owners had got ideas too big for the limited passing trade, fantastic walking country though[^]
We decided to head off to replenish our dwindling supplies and ended up driving all the way past Skipton to Kirkby Lonsdale, it had been raining all day and the idea of spending a night on a flooded field was becoming less and less appealing, then it really started to hammer it down and the wipers were struggling manfully to cope when the water started puring in from the wiper motor housing. That was it we decided to call it a day and hit the M6 to home.
Harvey performed brilliantly with a couple of fuel leak issues, one while at Commerfest when the fuel pipe rubbed against the tyre (I'll tell you about it one day:I) and a fault on the new fuel pump I fitted. No breakdowns but it was close[:0] pics tomorrow

There was a smell of petrol, and I found this [:0]

The outlet pipe from the pump had come out completely, it must have happened just as we pulled up. The engine must have gotten that hot during the long climb and, the while manoeuvring, the cold petrol had cooled the outlet to the point where the pipe had shrunk enough to pop out[xx(] A quick fix to remove the pump and tap the pipe back in - lecky pump just purchased to prevent future issues:I
All in all a great week away that showed up a few weaknesses that will soon be put right - but up to now Harvey hasn't needed the services of the RAC[^]

Superb pics. The showroom and the second campsite are stunning. Have you got any details of their locations??

The car showroom is in Thornton le Dale, right on the main street. Buckden lays about mid way between Layburn and Skipton on the B6160 and the campsite is up a narrow access road up the side of the pub. It's run by the family in the farm on the opposite side of the road from the village shop so best to call in there to make sure there is space. Only very small and uneven so there is limited space for vans but well worth it if you can find a decent pitch[^] - no hook-ups but hot water and shower at the farmhouse.
We'll be back[8D]

Not to the point of boiling over but those big climbs would test any cooling system to the limit, the fan and pump were doing a fine job but would like to do that too often:I

DT Mathewsons is a good place to spend an hour or two. The Imp Club went there in 2008 during out Malton-based National. If you go make sure you go right outside at the back and have a look at the 'graveyard'.

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Hi john, great pic's:D.Glad you had a good few day's:p. Had similar problem with an imp where the outlet pipe removed it's self from the pump (mechanical)spreading copious amounts of fuel up the A1 until the reservoir run out[V]. Just knocked it back in and had no further probs;).
