Already get called Dick Dastardly by some friends because I have a purple Opel GT which (I can only assume if you're half blind and squint a lot) looks like the car he had in Wacky Races!

In May this year I bid on a Humber Super Snipe on Ebay and won it .
I thought is was in Granton Edinburgh, We were going to Moffat to the Rootes Classic car s show so no problem we would just pop across to Edinburgh and collect it.
When I spoke to the chap selling the car I found out it was in Grantown Inverness![:0][:0].
I had a quick think about it and decided that I got the car at a good price so it would be worth the 775 mile round trip,
So we hired a car from Manchester book into a Bed & Breakfast just outside Inverness set off at 5 on a Friday and drove up stopped overnight in the B&B and went to see the car on Saturday Morning, it was just as he had described so I paid the money dropped the hire car off in Inverness.[^].
Had a nice steady drive home, stopping at Loch Ness, Fort William, & Loch Lomond. The weather was brilliant, the views were stunning and the Super Snipe ran like a dream.
We did 375 miles in the hire car which cost £53.00 in diesel and did 400 trouble free miles in the Super Snipe which cost £135.00 in petrol.
We had a wonderful weekend break and a very nice car to boot.

Jon, is your rolling radius bigger or smaller on the back than the standard 14" ers and what speed does it go comfortably?
My wheels are 15inch,9inch wide on the back with 225tyres,7inch wide on the front with 195 low profiles(but not that low it knocks you fillings out over the bumps).The rolling radius is the same as a 14inch dodge wheel and tyre.When you fit low profile tyres make sure they are the extra load type as your putting alot more weight than a normal car on them.Also if you did fit 17inch wheels you will prob find it will drive and handel terrible unless the whole suspension set up is changed for something more modern like "HUT" dave jones van. I pretty much guarantee you will not find a set of 17inch wheels that will fit the commer/dodge pcd with the correct offset.I spent years and lots of money trying different wheels and offsets to get a 9inch wide wheel to fit on the back for it to look right.Regards your 80bhp it doesnt realy matter how much power you have if the gearing is not right.When we fitted Riches holbay engine in the comp van,it put out nearly 100bhp at the wheels but its screaming at that and tops out early enen with an od box.I was quite proud of getting 100bhp at the wheels when i built the engine as the compertitions department never got that out of the road tuned engine!lol Ive carried out a fair few mods to my commer lump and it will do 70mph on a flat road but the revs are far to high to drive at that speed for long. I should be taking delivery of a humber hawk back axle today with a lower diff ratio for my 2.4td isuzu conversion. So motorways should be a brezze soonIts getting a happy medium between the two so the van can still pull its self up hills and not take ages to get going off the mark

Dave - He'll definitely be at the Woodcotes sometime. Not been there in a while due to car woes, work and house projects. Display season's over now so I got some time on my hands!!
As for first overnighter - as soon as possible, Martin's would have been good, but We'll get him home and kitted out first. He'll be away for a couple of weekends before Santa visits though!

Thanks Jon and Martin for the answers, really helps me out there. It is a real pain about that gearing, will be really interested in how the Hawk axle goes but rare as rocking horse I guess. I've seen those custom OD systems that are self contained, a place in Sheffield does them - not sure if you can get different ratios on them to up things significantly however at nearly a grand a piece it's a bit of an expensive solution. Maybe this is a daft question but does a diff have a rev limit or will it safely turn upto any speed or begin to whine?
